Boat Covers

I am going to get a cover for my boat this year and am wondering what everyon has and what they like or dislike about it. I have a Navagator 175 with a walk thru. Do you like the snaps? Any problems with them? Any brands better than others? Also, do you have a motor cover sewn in or no motor cover at all?

For a real good deal on a boat cover you can go to the sidewalk sale at that major sporting goods retailer in Owatonna or now Rogers! I got a cover for my boat for $10.00! It was brand new and it was missing one strap for tieing it down. Heck for $5.00 I got that fixed and now I have a real nice "Worlds Foremost Outfitter" cover on my boat. You have to hunt through the boxes of them that are there to find one that will fit but hey... saving at or near $100.00 I could do that. Take care and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo

I did the same thing in the Cabelas bargain cave. I found a Canvas boat cover normally $229 and it was marked down to $89. It had been returned but had not been used as it was still clean and in the bag. They tend to have lots of boat covers as I think people order the wrong size and send them back.

I had a custom snapon cover made for my Alumcraft.Best $500.00 ive spent. If you travel with your cover on, a snapon cover is the way to go, with a snapon cover there are no straps or bungees to rub or burn out the decals on the side of boat. Also with snapon you can cover the boat when it is in the water. Much better fit! My buds and I had our covers made at North Country Canvas, best quality for the money. I think they are in Robbinsdale 763-588-2384

Decals? You have decals on your boat? confused.gif I have a Jon boat, O/D Green in color no decals frown.gif I can see your point though, all depends on what you have to cover and how much money you want to spend. Usually though, when mine is in the water I am in it and the cover would just be a pain in the butt wink.gif Have a good one and N Joy the Hunt././Jimbo

That is a good point about the snaps. Most of the time it would br used for traveling but there may be an occasion that it is in the water and will need to be covered. Have you ever had problems with the snap tearing loose or coming off?

When I had my cover made at North Country Canvas they used top gun canvas and told me it is water proof, also meaning it does not breath so they install vents in there covers this also keeps the cover from balloning up when traveling. the snaps are ss that makes them much stronger than the cheaper brass ones. I think the venting is a very good idea because alota times you have to cover the boat when it wet and without vents that moisture is traped creating that wet enviroment (mold-mildow). As far as motor covers we chose not to cover the motor simply because our old covers with motor hoods would rub the gelcoat untill all the corners were white. The motors today are made tobe in the enviroment. Good coat of marine wax , best cover made ! Hope this helps you. Dangnear

I had one made at Economy Canvas on Viking Blvd (Hwy 22) in East Bethel. Cost was $340 for an 18'w/ walkthru with poly material. You could get one made for $290 if you want 10 oz canvas. Best price that I found for a custom made cover.
