Fished out of Schusters Resort.

Shack 42 was setup in about 22' of water.

Friday:

Our group caught around 30 walleye/sauger. 50% of the fish were between 13"-16", others fish were smaller, no big fish. Action started about 9:00 that morning and went steady, till 11:30 and the start again about 3:00 until 5:00 or so when we left for ride back.

Saturday:

Same shack - fishing was slower with only about 15-20 or so total walleye / sauger and one nicer perch.

Lures:

1)Smaller gold spoon or pimple, with 1/2 or head of fathead minnow. 2) Green jig heads, tipped with fathead. 3) green/white/orange glow jig with fathead minnow.

Continuous jigging action seemed to help attract more fish. For me, about 50/50 on jigged gold spoon vs green/white/orange glow jig.

From what I was hearing others were having less luck than our group. It's always hard to tell how others do when your not real sure how hard they are fishing.

I think the fishing is improving from what it has been.

Good Luck and Good Fishing.

Just got back from a couple days of fishing in Four Mile Bay area...and our experience was pretty similar to that one.

We got up there kind of late on Friday, and only picked up one walleye. On Saturday and half-day Sunday (we left around 2:00) two of us caught 17 walleye/sauger ranging from 13" to around 16", along with a few smaller ones. Nice eaters...very tasty. Also picked up a very nice perch, and a handful of eelpout and tullibee.

However, for us, it seemed like subtle, stationary presentations worked best. All but a few fish came on deadsticks/slip bobber rigs. Jigging only seemed to scare 'em off. But the colors you mentioned sound awfully familiar...

The fishing wasn't great, but it was decent.

Jarrod32,

Where you out in 30' plus feet of water the whole time? Where you driving around and setting up in various places or where you stationary in a resort house? Just curious because some buddies and I were thinking about running up and fishing out of portable fish houses the whole time.

Thanks.

We were stationary...we rented a sleeper house from one of the small operators. We were set up in 26 feet of water. We had the gear to go mobile, but we seemed to be doing about as well as anyone else, so we stayed put.

Thanks for the report. I am heading up to Schusters in 10 days. Hopefully the fishing continues to improve. I am ready to throw everything I can at them to get a fish.

Ludlows and Muskego both hit hard.  The Dayton place had a lot of big trees down, not sure of structural damage.  Some say a tornado skipped thru that area.  Looking at the destruction, I could believe it.  I feel bad for those impacted by this storm.   Below are a few snap shots of common sights around the area a day or two after the storm.

Mike, was there a lot of damage in the Ely area?

Drove through Annandale last Tuesday and was really bummed to still only see the old cement slab at Little Jim's. Hope they can get it built-back-better! 🙂

I heard recently the water level had gone down some. Sound like folks are re really dealing with a mess.    Fishing pictures look like a good year in that regard.   Hope the property loss isn't terrible but seems bad.   Bill

Yesterday was a grind to find bigger fish but we landed a few. Only 3 fish overall but they were all nice fish, all C&R. I do believe the sunfish are out of the shallows besides small ones. Thursday I took the nephews out and didn't see any on beds.

Glad you keep coming back, Mark. And glad you still know the way to catch a slew of walleyes. I wish i could’ve learned more while you were here. But I appreciate all the information you provide on what worked for you.  Strange year. We just got part of our dock in and our boat. I fished a couple hours this morning for the first time on a Frazer hump you know and caught ten under 12” and one keeper which I released… a nice 26+“. I’m hoping more to come soon. I hope all is well with you, Dick

Maybe the bamboozler will end up being like every fish story, some old timers holding their hands out as wide as possible to demonstrate to a youngster just how big it was....
