Me and a buddy are going up to mille lacs next weekend for a couple days. never been up there to fish. wondering which side of the lake are the resorts to fish out of??? where to fish, etc. etc. etc. I'm bringing my own house, so just need some advice on where to go out of as far as a resort etc, and what to bring for bait.............. thanks in advance for all your help!!!

What do you want to catch? Small perch is good out of rocky reef in 30' of water. Walleye are hard all over the lake but people still get some in the shallow reef area.

Edys seems to be doing ok on perch but don't know much else.

I would bring fat heads, and wax worms or euro larve for perch. Shiners for rattle reels at night if you have them.

Lots of jigs in perch color as well.

Thats should do it.

If you don't have a GPS Map or locator be sure to ask another angler in the area you're going to set up in for a little help. If you're on rocks set up at the edge of the rocks and sand, if you're on a flat set up on a break or just off it for the daytime bite and then move up early and late. To many will just plop down anywhere and that ain't good. If it's nice outside cut a bunch of holes, some up on the structure and some off (cut these holes at midday not in prime fishing time) and move from hole to hole until you find one that produces. Yup the jigging spoons will get you the most walleye while just plain minnows will get the pout and perch. Personally I wouldn't bother fishing with plain minnow except after dark but then I don't fish at night. Good Luck and keep asking those questions. It's the only way to learn.

I heard recently the water level had gone down some. Sound like folks are re really dealing with a mess.    Fishing pictures look like a good year in that regard.   Hope the property loss isn't terrible but seems bad.   Bill

Yesterday was a grind to find bigger fish but we landed a few. Only 3 fish overall but they were all nice fish, all C&R. I do believe the sunfish are out of the shallows besides small ones. Thursday I took the nephews out and didn't see any on beds.

Glad you keep coming back, Mark. And glad you still know the way to catch a slew of walleyes. I wish i could’ve learned more while you were here. But I appreciate all the information you provide on what worked for you.  Strange year. We just got part of our dock in and our boat. I fished a couple hours this morning for the first time on a Frazer hump you know and caught ten under 12” and one keeper which I released… a nice 26+“. I’m hoping more to come soon. I hope all is well with you, Dick

Maybe the bamboozler will end up being like every fish story, some old timers holding their hands out as wide as possible to demonstrate to a youngster just how big it was....

Fished a bigger lake, fish or at least the eaters are on the mid lake humps. Water Temps 68 degrees, freezer now has 6 total as I've been eating fish often. Tomorrow we chase the 30" walleye for catch and release.
