north of little falls

Yup!.. It is a fun stretch of river as well. If I am correct Jon N or Navigator fishes that stretch more often than most of us. My family and I went to Crow Wing SP last summer. Had some pretty good fishing for smallies and several muskie follows. Don't expect the numbers we have down here though...One out of every 3 or 5 years the smallies pull off a decent year class. Just remember to CPR. Hope this helps. grin.gif

The stretch from Litle Falls to Belle Prairie is good for smallies. I like to fish around the hwy 10 overpass, especially the west side. The mouth of Little Elk river is just upstream, that is another good spot to try. Once you get north of Little Elk it starts to get shallower. If you take your time and watch out for rocks you can get a boat up to the Belle Prairie park, but thats about it. Had good luck last summer the few times we went out.

What is navigation like around Little Falls? I've got an 18.5ft fiberglass bass boat, can you get around the area without too much trouble?

If you like your glass boat, I wouldn't recommend it.

You got to be careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there.

Is there deeper water around the (Contact US Regarding This Word) area that I could get around in without damage? Is fishing any good right around there?

If you want to e-mail me I would be willing to give you a little insight into travel in that area considering the size of your boat. This doesn't mean I'm going to sell all the spots but I can steer you in the right direction to hopefully avoid getting yourself in a pickle. It all depends on where you access it at as to what you are going to run into with a bigger boat. I really don't want to see ya bang up your boat.

Hmmm - two questions; two answers.

North of LF is supposed to be good muskie water, and if ya launch just upriver from the dam on the west shore it's not a bad run. I've never launched or fish there exactly, but I've seen deeper v's putzing around. Crow wing river State Park is a good launch, but in your boat you won't have much range.

Corey Bechtold has some experience up there and maybe a post "ATTN: Corey" might get a reply. You can also search this forum's posts from 2 or three years back when I was planning my trip up to Crow Wing.

Below the dam about 3 or 4 miles is the Pike Creek access and it is suitable for yer rig unless the water is super low. From there you're okay upriver to the golf course and downriver to the Royalton dam. The golf course gets dicey and I wouldn't try it in your rig. I get spooked going through it in my 14' alumibeater which is intentionally spartan to keep it light.

I see a lot of guys pitchin/flippin/skippin/dippin and wishin for smallies around that area in glass boats and deeper rigs. BUT... keep in mind that every spring leaves a new crop of deadheads. Take 'er easy and the Pike Creek area should prove a blast.

Wanna spot? The first island downriver has a good drop-off at it's westside tail and I've marked lots of stuff there while I was casting the grass for pike.

Funny, my wife and I drove by Big Rice on our way to Grand Rapids. I pointed to the launch and said, somewhere there's an old rotting couch in there, two clowns 🤡🤡 on the forum keep joking each other about pissing on. She said gross! Cuz that's what guys talk about on forums! 😆😅🤣

You can still fish Mille Lacs during the closure from July 1-15.  You just can't specifically target a walleye or use live bait.  There's plenty of smallmouth bass and pike in the lake that you can target with artificial lures and you might get lucky with a muskie.   The wind can be an issue out there though.  If that doesn't sound appealing to you, try the Rum River.  There is an access in Kathio State Park that would work well for a kayak.  You could go upstream and downstream from there too.   I think you will need to purchase a daily pass to use that access in the park (it might be like 5 bucks).  I haven't fished there in years but I fish the Rum River further downstream every season and the fishing in there is fantastic during midsummer.  Look for current breaks, seams, and deeper holes.

Sorry I didn't see your post earlier. Glad your place was ok. Lake Country power said they had 20 poles toppled in one area!

You still have your trailer and place up there? Maybe you should do some summer rentals of it to help pay the taxes and up keep on it? 👍

The water is starting to slowly go down. From what I can tell it looks like it’s down about 5-6 inches. The wind was terrible over the weekend though. I’m sure many properties suffered damages with Sundays winds. Things are finally starting to head in the right direction but it’s going to take a very long time for things to get back to even somewhat normal.

Stopped at VC last week as well.  Didn't have pizza, but the sandwiches and appetizers we had were good.  The service was very good.  However, that's the first and only time we had been there.

Any other info about VC?   Got kid and and fam coming up.  Been a couple years but really liked it.   Reviews on line still good.   Did Mark just hit on a bad night or has it gone down?   Being on west not a place we go often.
