Adding live well to boat

I have a 15 foot Lund that I would like to add a live well to. In the rear of the boat on either side of the moter are two areas which I belive have foam inside. Should I remove the foam from one side and install a liner? Or would it be better to leave that and install something next to it running along the side? This boat has three swivel seats and most fishing is done by myself or with one other person max. Any ideas or pictures of what others have done would be great.

I did one and it was not that bad of a job plumbing it in.If you go to www.kvesurplus.com and talk with Valv, the owner and F.M. member,he will probably have all the knowledge and parts to complete the job.He will be able to tell you how to do everything and he is a good joe.

Another F.M.er would does this work for a living is Steve Bakken and his business is Bakken Boat [email protected] www.bakkenboatshop.com.Another very helpfull person that you can talk to with the correct knowledge and the parts.

You do not want to install a large capacity live well at the transom. The extra weight will greatly hurt the performance of your boat, it will draw the transom lower into the water, and make you out of balance making it very easy for waves to come over the back of the boat is another concern. Having water that close to you while motoring is a good guarantee you are going to get WET if there is not a lid locked down at all times.

Thats probably trapped air type of flotation. You may get away with a small baitwell(about the size of a minnow bucket) without causing too many issues, but anything with capacity is going to get heavy real quick. You are far better off coming up with a livewell that is forward of the rear bench, or putting a livewell in one of the forward benches(sounds like a bench type boat).

I went through Valv for all the parts too. For the tank, pump, hoses, switch board and fittings it only cost about $50. Some handy work from my dad and I and we had a livewell. It actually turned out very nice. We designed it to extend out from the deck in center of the boat. The deck is now 1.5 feet longer, wich is good.

We have a 14 foot Grumman and the tank we put in there holds 12.5 gallons of water. It effects the control of the boat a little but the speed is the same. It turned out to be much more of a complex project than we thought, but cool in the end.

perchnonice, I have a project boat going also. I've purchased a lot of livewell stuff from kve. Val can set you up and give you some good advise on the subject. I don't think I would remove any flotation suff from the boat... remember it's there for a reason!

I'm looking at adding a livewell to my '78 mirrocraft. Valv if I stopped by your shop do you think you could set me up and help me out with this? I put a casting deck on the front last year and now would like to add a livewell to the back end of it. Are you open on Saturdays?

Ludlows and Muskego both hit hard.  The Dayton place had a lot of big trees down, not sure of structural damage.  Some say a tornado skipped thru that area.  Looking at the destruction, I could believe it.  I feel bad for those impacted by this storm.   Below are a few snap shots of common sights around the area a day or two after the storm.

Mike, was there a lot of damage in the Ely area?

Drove through Annandale last Tuesday and was really bummed to still only see the old cement slab at Little Jim's. Hope they can get it built-back-better! 🙂

I heard recently the water level had gone down some. Sound like folks are re really dealing with a mess.    Fishing pictures look like a good year in that regard.   Hope the property loss isn't terrible but seems bad.   Bill

Yesterday was a grind to find bigger fish but we landed a few. Only 3 fish overall but they were all nice fish, all C&R. I do believe the sunfish are out of the shallows besides small ones. Thursday I took the nephews out and didn't see any on beds.

Glad you keep coming back, Mark. And glad you still know the way to catch a slew of walleyes. I wish i could’ve learned more while you were here. But I appreciate all the information you provide on what worked for you.  Strange year. We just got part of our dock in and our boat. I fished a couple hours this morning for the first time on a Frazer hump you know and caught ten under 12” and one keeper which I released… a nice 26+“. I’m hoping more to come soon. I hope all is well with you, Dick

Maybe the bamboozler will end up being like every fish story, some old timers holding their hands out as wide as possible to demonstrate to a youngster just how big it was....
