Anyone out on Turtle Lake this year? I was on it last year once with nothing to brag about. I know they were developing that lake with houses. That's a shame. Lots of big northerns in there prior to that. Had a blast in the summer, 4 people in the boat trolling along and in less than 2 hours had our limits. Would spit out some nice bass too. Just curious to hear if there's a bite.

I'm assuming you are referring to South Turtle in OTC. North Turtle does not have an access, however some access it in the winter off the road. There was a sunnie and pike bite that I was there for a month ago. Haven't been back since. The sunnies have lots of the black spots, not for me. The pike have been hit hard again, but the lake typically produces lots of pike. You may wish to imply in the Fergus falls, battle lake region, they're closer.

I was assuming you were referring to the Turtle Lake that's North of Reno & West of Maple. Which Turtle Lake do you mean?

  • 3 weeks later...

I fished it last June, saw 1 pike and thousands of carp. I will say the weather did not help, sunny and calm.

I couple years ago we anchored up in one spot for some panfish. Ended up catching northern, walleye, perch, bass, bullhead, crappie, sunnies, and carp. All jigging flu-flus right off the side of the boat anchored in one spot. Kids had a blast. Last year for whatever reason we couldn't buy a bite in the few times we went out. Never fished it in the winter.

I heard recently the water level had gone down some. Sound like folks are re really dealing with a mess.    Fishing pictures look like a good year in that regard.   Hope the property loss isn't terrible but seems bad.   Bill

Yesterday was a grind to find bigger fish but we landed a few. Only 3 fish overall but they were all nice fish, all C&R. I do believe the sunfish are out of the shallows besides small ones. Thursday I took the nephews out and didn't see any on beds.

Glad you keep coming back, Mark. And glad you still know the way to catch a slew of walleyes. I wish i could’ve learned more while you were here. But I appreciate all the information you provide on what worked for you.  Strange year. We just got part of our dock in and our boat. I fished a couple hours this morning for the first time on a Frazer hump you know and caught ten under 12” and one keeper which I released… a nice 26+“. I’m hoping more to come soon. I hope all is well with you, Dick

Maybe the bamboozler will end up being like every fish story, some old timers holding their hands out as wide as possible to demonstrate to a youngster just how big it was....

Fished a bigger lake, fish or at least the eaters are on the mid lake humps. Water Temps 68 degrees, freezer now has 6 total as I've been eating fish often. Tomorrow we chase the 30" walleye for catch and release.
