That should be a fun time. I remember when my little one went out with me the first time. He was 9 at the time also. We had two toms come in to about 50 yards, and he was so excited he started to giggle a bit. One bird ran, the other one came straight in and ended up on the dinner table. I don't know if he thought it was a hen with a weird voice or just wondered what was so dang funny!!!! Juniors been hooked ever since.

Hey Joel, are you 339 again this year? I'm in! 339 season E, maybe we'll have to hook up one morning...

Good Luck!

Are you guys sure about this?? Maybe it's me but I'm only finding the 2005 results not 2006? Point me if I'm wrong, I want to check!

I got it figured out. It was just me! I was not drawn.. boo! Looks like I might have to go archery only this year!

thanks for the heads up, me and one son are in...at least one brother too. The other son will have to do archery like his brother did last year.

Yes. I believe that is 6 in a row.

Now I need to figure out if my son was drawn for a separate zone and Time A. He is only 11 and has neither the MDNR # nor a D.L.

well he has to have a MDNR number in order to register. Chewck his receipt from lottery registration.

No go for me this year but my brother his wife and my brother in law all got drawn for 418. I guess that's fine I plan on being the camera man filming all 3 hunts. We have been watching a big group of birds all winter so this spring season looks real optimistic for them.

Well my son and I got drawn for 419D. We usually do E or F but with limited time off D works better. I better get my vacation days put in for MN and the Black Hills!!!!

Chris,

Too bad about your MN hunt. When you get your spring schedule figured out let me know. You're alway welcome to grab a bunk at our place in Custer if the timing works out.

Catmaster, you can buy an archery tag over the counter for permit areas with 50 permits or more per season. If you got drawn you cannot get one, everyone else is eligable. You can hunt only the last 2 seasons of the year. There are other rules also, so check out the MN DNR website that BLB posted above for more info.

Got mine for 425 D. Finally get to go back down there after 3 years of trying.Don't have to try for a surplus tag. YESSS!

Just to add a bit, the over the counter tag valid for the last two time periods in any area with 50 or more permits is an Archery Only tag. If you use shotgun you must have been drawn or be successfull in purchasing a surplus tag.

I'm in a different zone this year, but we should hook up anyway. I've got this spot.......

Email me or I'll be in touch!!!

No draw for me or my two pards in our group this year in 414. That's okay, got drawn & was successful the last two years. If I get a surplus tag great, if not I'll save some more days for fishing or bowhunting.

I missed out this year. I'll use a couple extra vacation days for my Missouri hunt. Haven't heard if my son-in-law got his.

No luck for me this year. I'll try for a surplus tag, but if that don't go I can't complain about trying to go the archery route.

My buddy got drawn and I didn't....oh well, I guess I will have to go and clean out some coyotes at the strawberry farm while he is turkey hunting......Hey Nova, Matt is drawn for season D, I think you said you guys were going B season right?

I missed a huge coyote over thanksgiving down at the berry farm. Good luck to your crew, I am hoping for a left over tag, but I think that is going to be pretty hard with that area.

Going up to visit family at Mille lacs 4th of July weekend. Given the current fishing restrictions and the fact that I don’t have a boat, does anyone know any good shore/kayak fishing lakes in the Mille lacs area?

Spent yesterday afternoon wading the upper croix. Water actually seemed a little low. There was lots of floating grass, so my traditional approach of using a fire tiger jointed rapala was unusable. Tried a whopper plopper for a bit, which avoided floating grass better, but I just didn’t have confidence in using it. So since it seemed like the crayfish outnumbered the rocks, I decided to use a weightless Texas rigged plastic craw. Caught 3 smallies, and a pike.

Here's the actual water level as of Saturday, 6-25. It has dropped some but still is 4 feet above the rule curve. This is updated daily; it's just too early in the day for Sunday's data to be posted. You can check it yourself here: http://www.lwcb.ca/waterflowdata.html

@chaffmj, never mind.  I decided to take a cruise on up there today.  Had a couple popple tops in the driveway but nothing I couldn’t clear.  Nice to see the area again.

Ludlows and Muskego both hit hard.  The Dayton place had a lot of big trees down, not sure of structural damage.  Some say a tornado skipped thru that area.  Looking at the destruction, I could believe it.  I feel bad for those impacted by this storm.   Below are a few snap shots of common sights around the area a day or two after the storm.

Mike, was there a lot of damage in the Ely area?

Drove through Annandale last Tuesday and was really bummed to still only see the old cement slab at Little Jim's. Hope they can get it built-back-better! 🙂

I heard recently the water level had gone down some. Sound like folks are re really dealing with a mess.    Fishing pictures look like a good year in that regard.   Hope the property loss isn't terrible but seems bad.   Bill

Yesterday was a grind to find bigger fish but we landed a few. Only 3 fish overall but they were all nice fish, all C&R. I do believe the sunfish are out of the shallows besides small ones. Thursday I took the nephews out and didn't see any on beds.

Glad you keep coming back, Mark. And glad you still know the way to catch a slew of walleyes. I wish i could’ve learned more while you were here. But I appreciate all the information you provide on what worked for you.  Strange year. We just got part of our dock in and our boat. I fished a couple hours this morning for the first time on a Frazer hump you know and caught ten under 12” and one keeper which I released… a nice 26+“. I’m hoping more to come soon. I hope all is well with you, Dick
