I was wondering the general thoughts on fishing and overall asthetics on Wendigo versus the rest of the lake. I am looking at a property on it, and have a stigma about being on the "other side" of the bridge. Any thoughts? I have heard about some decent fishing on this arm. Any commments?

The whole lake is nice if you like staring at cabins and houses back to back and all the commotion that goes with it. I confine my fishing on it to night and the colder times. Your choice... smirk.gif

I totally agree with the above statement. On the other hand, it's an excellent fishery for 'eyes, northerns, and sm/lm bass. It's also a good panfish lake and you can even chase lakers out there. I'd have to say the Wendigo side sees a little less pleasure boaters than the west side of the cause way. Get ready for some high taxes if you're on the lake!!! Lots of chunky predator fish in there with the smelt diet they're on!

I live on Pokegama and fish the lake frequently. You cannot go wrong buying property on Pokegama, the property values have gone up 10-20 percent for the last seven years. Yes, the taxes are high,oh well, can't have it all. If for no other reason it would be a good investment. But the real reason would be for the fishing, outstanding. The boat traffic is high at times. One of the few places to gas up on the lake is at the far eastern end of wendigo at Bayside marina so you get alot of traffic, both boat and airplane. Overall, I would say buy if you can and learn to tolerate the small inconveniences.

I grew up on Pokegama (1966-1983). If you have kids, it is a wonderful place to spend each summer swimming and each winter skating. Fishing was always a practice of dodging all the water skiers and other boaters.

If I remember the Wendigo arm correctly, we used to head up to Woodtick lake each spring in our canoe. My two most vivid memories are my brother losing his fishing pole which we ended up 'snagging' after a couple of hours, and catching a 5+ lb dogfish while twitching a rapala on the surface. He jumped 2 or 3 times just like a largemouth.

Pokie is a nice lake no matter which side of the road your on. Gets pretty busy during warm weather but so do alot of other lakes. Fishing can be good or slow (like anywhere else), But if you want a change, it's a short drive to another lake.

My folks live on the furthest end of Wendigo. It's fairly quiet, compared to rest of the lake. I concur w/ what Boedi said, and the lake holds large fish of all varieties. I grew up visiting my grandparents on the lake and in town, and my folks bought their lot in '87. I love it, and aim to keep the property in our the family forever.

I have lived on the Wendigo arm for 12 years. Coming from the Cities boat traffic seams light. I fish in the winter more than the summer. Eyes bite in the morning and evening. Most fish are very very nice, lots to big to keep.

House value has went up by at least x4 in 12 years, lake shore taxes are cheap compared to the cities.

The mayflies are just starting in Frazier Bay.  We could see a few in the boat the last couple of days.  Then started seeing big trails on water yesterday and today.  I just got done cleaning 3 walleyes and they were full of them.

Have the Mayflies started.  We are coming up end of July and trying to see what the time line for them are this year.  Not sure how the late ice out would effect the hatch.  Thanks in advanced.

Just an update, walleye are still hanging on the week edges.  I caught mine in 8-10FOW again.  Lost one that was 4-5lbs.  Best part, I have yet to use livebait this open water season.  Basically the same technique as last week.     Only issue is finding the weeds that hold the fish.  Same as last week, just looking on SI, finding small transitions between weed edge, soft/hard bottom ect.     Once you find them, then you can spot lock/talon down and cast at them.     And, as before all fish were released.

Saturday and Sunday were tough days on the water, NW winds post cold front. Got better yesterday and today. Took a retired friend out today and sent him home with 4, should have been 6 but I was off my game. Water Temps around 70. Unfortunately can only fish Thursday as I have to work a few days, this weekend. Safe travels on the Independence weekend!

Wasn’t quite sure how this week would turn out because of all the reviews but have had a blast and caught some awesome fish. Very weedy in most of the lake canoe out to less weedy area and fished around the weeds caught multiple 4  even heavier bass in a row definitely recommend it
