underwater camera

Recommended Posts

Looking to buy a good name brand underwater ice camera. Can anyone give me a brand name and $ amount I should spend? I saw one at Gander Mountain for $485, but I don't need anything that elaborate. I notice people talking about a vex.Is that a brand? I have a scope that I use now that gives the depth and blips on the screen when a fish passes by, but you can't tell what they are.

Vex is short for Vexilar. These are depth/fish locators also known as a flasher, but they are not cameras. Most of the discussions you’ll find on FM are about the Aqua-View and Marcum brand cameras. You may want to do a search in the “Equipment - Expert Information forum” There should be a ton of good info on cameras there.

Welcome to Fishing Minnesota.

Hudo: I have the Aqua View and it does a good job. We had two of them down on Mille Lacs yesterday, and in a 16' house we could see the camera hanging down from the other side of the house. Mille Lacs is very clear and distance is good. I did not buy the top of the line, I believe mine was around $300. No remote I swivel the camera by hand by use a tripod over the hole to keep the camera positioned and eliminate the swinging of the camera in the water. I have a friend who uses the Marcum and he likes it real well. Its a matter of preference, but they are a fun tool. Bill

i bought the aqua view scout which isnt the top of the line but i think it works well, paid bout 200 for it it doesnt show depth or direction /temp but i didnt think that was a nececity for me, i also bout a tripod to hold the camera to keep it in position its up to you they are a fun, i would recomend a vex or other flasher first if ya dont have one they are alot more useful then a camera i have both good luck with your purchase

Nope, not there anymore.  Just don’t get up there enough anymore.  Sadly.   Taxes are cheap enough to not really worry about and still have it.     smurf does the pissin’.  I wouldn’t do a thing like that to good furniture. 😉

You can still fish Mille Lacs during the closure from July 1-15.  You just can't specifically target a walleye or use live bait.  There's plenty of smallmouth bass and pike in the lake that you can target with artificial lures and you might get lucky with a muskie.   The wind can be an issue out there though.  If that doesn't sound appealing to you, try the Rum River.  There is an access in Kathio State Park that would work well for a kayak.  You could go upstream and downstream from there too.   I think you will need to purchase a daily pass to use that access in the park (it might be like 5 bucks).  I haven't fished there in years but I fish the Rum River further downstream every season and the fishing in there is fantastic during midsummer.  Look for current breaks, seams, and deeper holes.

Sorry I didn't see your post earlier. Glad your place was ok. Lake Country power said they had 20 poles toppled in one area!

You still have your trailer and place up there? Maybe you should do some summer rentals of it to help pay the taxes and up keep on it? 👍

The water is starting to slowly go down. From what I can tell it looks like it’s down about 5-6 inches. The wind was terrible over the weekend though. I’m sure many properties suffered damages with Sundays winds. Things are finally starting to head in the right direction but it’s going to take a very long time for things to get back to even somewhat normal.

Stopped at VC last week as well.  Didn't have pizza, but the sandwiches and appetizers we had were good.  The service was very good.  However, that's the first and only time we had been there.
