Question

i have a model 30 jiffy 3hp 10inch and i havent been able to use it all that much, and do use the proper mix and all, but it seems that i have to run it on half choke all the time to get it to cut properly, if i had to guess i have drilled maybe 100 hole dont quote me on that but is there a problem or does in need more of a work out to break it in? it does seem to die once in a while and doesnt idle or stay running if i puch a hole then walk to do a tip up or what ever just want to pick your brains a bit to see what ya think, if it dies i prime it and it start rite up what so ya think?? thanks guys

Your not getting enough gas, most likely from a dirty carb. You could start with the miracle cure, drain the gas, fill with fresh gas/oil mix, to that add 1/3 cup carb cleaner. Run that mixture till its gone. You may see an improvement or you might not. If you don't, you try adjusting the carb. Start with the Low Speed mixture and move on to the High Speed. You'll be turning the mixture screws out 1/8 turns. When adjusting the high speed mixture do it on the ice so you can test it under a load. If you still can't get it to run right your next step is to clean and rebuild the carb.

My jiffy did the same thing for years. I just got used to it. Finally I messed around with the little screws while I was running it and now it runs great with no choke. It only took me about 10 years to adjust it and the last 10 years have been great. As stated above, always use fresh gas.

Good suggestions. One helpful hint is to always screw in your speed adjustments and count how many turns before they bottom out. This allows you a reference from where you started. If things get messed up or the problem is not your adjustments you can go back to you original settings.

I would use Seafoam not carb cleaner ( sorry to disagree with Surface Tension) but I used carb cleaner and it dissolved the fuel line enough so I had to replace it. Then run it long enough to get it warmed up good, then open the low speed jet ( should be stamped with a L on the carb) 1/8 turn counter-clockwise. Do this until you can get it to idle without the choke on, then go to the high speed jet and do the same thing. But give the Seafoam some time to work it's magic. You might not even need to make any adjustment after you use the Seafoam or you might need to go back to your orginal settings after running the machine for a while

You still have your trailer and place up there? Maybe you should do some summer rentals of it to help pay the taxes and up keep on it? 👍

The water is starting to slowly go down. From what I can tell it looks like it’s down about 5-6 inches. The wind was terrible over the weekend though. I’m sure many properties suffered damages with Sundays winds. Things are finally starting to head in the right direction but it’s going to take a very long time for things to get back to even somewhat normal.

Stopped at VC last week as well.  Didn't have pizza, but the sandwiches and appetizers we had were good.  The service was very good.  However, that's the first and only time we had been there.

Any other info about VC?   Got kid and and fam coming up.  Been a couple years but really liked it.   Reviews on line still good.   Did Mark just hit on a bad night or has it gone down?   Being on west not a place we go often.

Going up to visit family at Mille lacs 4th of July weekend. Given the current fishing restrictions and the fact that I don’t have a boat, does anyone know any good shore/kayak fishing lakes in the Mille lacs area?

Spent yesterday afternoon wading the upper croix. Water actually seemed a little low. There was lots of floating grass, so my traditional approach of using a fire tiger jointed rapala was unusable. Tried a whopper plopper for a bit, which avoided floating grass better, but I just didn’t have confidence in using it. So since it seemed like the crayfish outnumbered the rocks, I decided to use a weightless Texas rigged plastic craw. Caught 3 smallies, and a pike.

Here's the actual water level as of Saturday, 6-25. It has dropped some but still is 4 feet above the rule curve. This is updated daily; it's just too early in the day for Sunday's data to be posted. You can check it yourself here: http://www.lwcb.ca/waterflowdata.html

@chaffmj, never mind.  I decided to take a cruise on up there today.  Had a couple popple tops in the driveway but nothing I couldn’t clear.  Nice to see the area again.

Ludlows and Muskego both hit hard.  The Dayton place had a lot of big trees down, not sure of structural damage.  Some say a tornado skipped thru that area.  Looking at the destruction, I could believe it.  I feel bad for those impacted by this storm.   Below are a few snap shots of common sights around the area a day or two after the storm.

Mike, was there a lot of damage in the Ely area?
