Just a note on Larson Lake. Ice is not very thick. A hair less than 8" just out from the boat landing. Little snow cover so we could get around on wheelers just fine. No Splake lots of perch!

Hibbing, did you happen to go out onto any of the other designated trout water in that area?

Erskine seems to get a lot of traffic for such a small lake, have had a couple of good days out there though. Was the access to Larson pretty good, or did you have to run the wheeler most of the way in?

Had to park on the logging road about a mile or so from the boat landing. Took my wheeler the rest of the way down the snowmobile trail. The trail was rutted up pretty good from several other wheelers. If we get much more snow you will have to use a snowmobile.

Hibbing, thanks loads for the information! I may be up in the area the weekend of the 27th to fish the area for what is biting. If you don’t mind me asking, were you set up over a picture window in the shallows, or fishing through a round hole in the deeper water? Either way, were you able to see any of the Splake?

9" round hole. Could see down about 30 feet. Moved around some. Fished in front of the camp sites in 38 fow. Moved to the island and tried 26, 40 and 60 fow. Not so much as a bite. Caught quite a few perch. All around 7 - 8 inches. doesn't appear that the lake has got a lot of attention this year. Not a lot of holes or tracks.

Are we allowed to take snowmobiles or atvs out on the lake or is it against regulations? Thanks in advance.

To the best of my limited knowledge, wheelers and sleds are fine on Larson. right now that is the only way to access the lake. You have to park about a mile or so away from the landing.

Haven't heard much from you on this site for a while. We've fished together a time or 2 on URL with your son in law, Dave. Will we see you at the Lawrence Lake contest next month?

I probably won't make it there but Dave and my son, Kris, and the gang more-than-likely will be there.

Did any of you get out onto Larson or Erskine this weekend? I am planning on heading to either this weekend, just wondering if there is a bite going. Any info would be appreciated.

Did I see any of you on Erskine this weekend? Fished Saturday until the sun went behind the clouds permanently. A fair number of fish were caught until that point. I was surprised by the lack of water clarity compared to last year. Also heard that there were lots of guys out toward the island on Larson on Saturday, any action over that way?

You still have your trailer and place up there? Maybe you should do some summer rentals of it to help pay the taxes and up keep on it? 👍

The water is starting to slowly go down. From what I can tell it looks like it’s down about 5-6 inches. The wind was terrible over the weekend though. I’m sure many properties suffered damages with Sundays winds. Things are finally starting to head in the right direction but it’s going to take a very long time for things to get back to even somewhat normal.

Stopped at VC last week as well.  Didn't have pizza, but the sandwiches and appetizers we had were good.  The service was very good.  However, that's the first and only time we had been there.

Any other info about VC?   Got kid and and fam coming up.  Been a couple years but really liked it.   Reviews on line still good.   Did Mark just hit on a bad night or has it gone down?   Being on west not a place we go often.

Going up to visit family at Mille lacs 4th of July weekend. Given the current fishing restrictions and the fact that I don’t have a boat, does anyone know any good shore/kayak fishing lakes in the Mille lacs area?

Spent yesterday afternoon wading the upper croix. Water actually seemed a little low. There was lots of floating grass, so my traditional approach of using a fire tiger jointed rapala was unusable. Tried a whopper plopper for a bit, which avoided floating grass better, but I just didn’t have confidence in using it. So since it seemed like the crayfish outnumbered the rocks, I decided to use a weightless Texas rigged plastic craw. Caught 3 smallies, and a pike.

Here's the actual water level as of Saturday, 6-25. It has dropped some but still is 4 feet above the rule curve. This is updated daily; it's just too early in the day for Sunday's data to be posted. You can check it yourself here: http://www.lwcb.ca/waterflowdata.html

@chaffmj, never mind.  I decided to take a cruise on up there today.  Had a couple popple tops in the driveway but nothing I couldn’t clear.  Nice to see the area again.

Ludlows and Muskego both hit hard.  The Dayton place had a lot of big trees down, not sure of structural damage.  Some say a tornado skipped thru that area.  Looking at the destruction, I could believe it.  I feel bad for those impacted by this storm.   Below are a few snap shots of common sights around the area a day or two after the storm.

Mike, was there a lot of damage in the Ely area?
