That is unbelievable people, we need to keep our lakes clean, leaving all of your garbage on the ice is not a good way to do it. You can bring the garbage home with you, it doesn't weigh that much. Don't be lazy. The sad part is that those (Contact US Regarding This Word) are probably throwing there garbage overboard in the summer, FISH don't EAT GARBAGE. Clean it up. Ok, I'm done blowing off steam now.

I would hope that everyone on FM shares this opinion. The problem is trying to get the general public to do the same. They are the ones that give us a bad name as fisherman/sportsman.

I hate to generalize, but my observations have been that it's mostly the younger guys (teenagers mostly) who are more out partying than fishing.

I've seen this type parked three feet from a garbage can they could drive up to and dispose, but don't. Just roll down the window and toss out their fast food trash and drive away. Some one else will pick it up attitude...

I also Have seen some pretty bad garbage dumps on the lakes.

The most recent was on ringo lake between the Islands. The folks that were out during early ice left beer cans and carpet chunks, broken lanterns and such. You all Know who you are. You obvisly didnt get spanked enough when you where kids. Grow up people! keep it clean! Set an example for your kids and future young sportsman!

I was on Ringo this past weekend also, my buddy and I saw and picked up a bunch of garbage coming off of the lake. We saw two teenage kids fish by their houses (small wooden doghouse styles that are still out there), and they left all kinds of cans and bottle laying outside of them. It is too bad that the so called "sportsman" can't show more courtesy to the great outdoors and bring their garbage home.

I think the dnr should use some of the lottery money and run a tv ad about this subject, I think some people just forget the in the spring all that garbage they left on the ice is going to end up in the lake. It could just be a nice friedly reminder showing some very polluted waters and then some waters that are clean, or show a bunch of garbage on the ice and run a time lapsed video that shows the ice melting and the garbage all going into the lake. I think it may just help.

I live on the lake, don't icefish, but do ski and snowshoe the lake. Yes, there is too much garbage left on the ice. I also walk the roads around the lakes for exercise and come spring after the snow melts the ditches are filled with junk. I have started taking a sack along on the walks and fill one up every walk. Tough to change a person's attitude about the environment.

I live on the horseshoe chain of lake by Richmond, and I know what you mean about the garbage issue. It seems that most of the garbage I see is left behind when people move their permanent house.

You still have your trailer and place up there? Maybe you should do some summer rentals of it to help pay the taxes and up keep on it? 👍

The water is starting to slowly go down. From what I can tell it looks like it’s down about 5-6 inches. The wind was terrible over the weekend though. I’m sure many properties suffered damages with Sundays winds. Things are finally starting to head in the right direction but it’s going to take a very long time for things to get back to even somewhat normal.

Stopped at VC last week as well.  Didn't have pizza, but the sandwiches and appetizers we had were good.  The service was very good.  However, that's the first and only time we had been there.

Any other info about VC?   Got kid and and fam coming up.  Been a couple years but really liked it.   Reviews on line still good.   Did Mark just hit on a bad night or has it gone down?   Being on west not a place we go often.

Going up to visit family at Mille lacs 4th of July weekend. Given the current fishing restrictions and the fact that I don’t have a boat, does anyone know any good shore/kayak fishing lakes in the Mille lacs area?

Spent yesterday afternoon wading the upper croix. Water actually seemed a little low. There was lots of floating grass, so my traditional approach of using a fire tiger jointed rapala was unusable. Tried a whopper plopper for a bit, which avoided floating grass better, but I just didn’t have confidence in using it. So since it seemed like the crayfish outnumbered the rocks, I decided to use a weightless Texas rigged plastic craw. Caught 3 smallies, and a pike.

Here's the actual water level as of Saturday, 6-25. It has dropped some but still is 4 feet above the rule curve. This is updated daily; it's just too early in the day for Sunday's data to be posted. You can check it yourself here: http://www.lwcb.ca/waterflowdata.html

@chaffmj, never mind.  I decided to take a cruise on up there today.  Had a couple popple tops in the driveway but nothing I couldn’t clear.  Nice to see the area again.

Ludlows and Muskego both hit hard.  The Dayton place had a lot of big trees down, not sure of structural damage.  Some say a tornado skipped thru that area.  Looking at the destruction, I could believe it.  I feel bad for those impacted by this storm.   Below are a few snap shots of common sights around the area a day or two after the storm.

Mike, was there a lot of damage in the Ely area?
