We were out on german last night messing around with dinky crappies when from across the lake a car came cruzing over. the time is near when this ice fishing stuff gets a lot more convinient. are there cars on ice anywhere else in the area?

There are people that have more guts (or less common sense) than others.

You won't see me driving any time soon on any of the area lakes.

I have noticed cars or trucks on Gorman, duck german washington and jefferson. None of these lakes are safe in my opinion to be driven on by bigger veicals. You have to remember the drivers of these veicals put someone elses life on the line if they need rescuing or help. On German one guy parks 75 feet out from a good parking area, just to save a few steps. why take a chance.

i dont know but on clear in waseca there is 10 to 11 inches of ice where im fishing. lots of permeant houses out that weigh more than my s10. i have driven on 10 inches before.im not saying you should.

you always hear people telling people to stay off the ice with cars (its not safe) 11 inches is plenty for a small car or truck. im not saying that everylake is safe by no means. but im sure these people that are driving out had enough sense to check the ice befor they drove out..

most of the new pull behind fishhouses weigh just as much or more than most small cars.

It may have been the same guy I saw earlier in the day at the landing. I was pulling my gear from my truck when all of a sudden I noticed this car pulling up the landing I was out on the lake and did not feel it was safe enough for that. I have a small s-10 and I wouldnt even dream of driving on that lake yet.

Was it a dark blue 4-door Chevy Lumina?

be careful on the 11 inches if you take a close look theres a 2-3 inch air gap in the ice in alot of areas

In a "normal year" ice may be good, but this year is far from normal. shocked.gif

No wasnt a lumina I know that so there is more than one not so bright person out there.

Being careful can not be stressed enough!

When I asked that about it being a Lumina I didn't mean it was me driving out there. I know my cousin was fishing out there and he always seems to be the first person driving on the lakes around there. I like to call him the crazy and stupid one. I myself dont drive on the ice around here at all with a vehicle, even when we have more than a foot of ice.

Cars and small trucks were out there today as well. confused.gif

I'm going to spray paint a small "parking lot" on the ice and charge for spots, kind of like they do at the state fair. I'm sure that if they are "smart" enough to drive on the ice with the kind of winter we've had, they would also be smart enough to pay me for parking spaces! Say I wonder if I could sell "laketop" property to them too? Hmmmmmm....

I don't think they have fixed much

More playas bite the dust.  Probably at least 5 more by the sounds of the reports.  Gotta be at least the many so I can be out too!

Have faith. You can see progress and ice depth from previous years on the Eagle Docks FB page. They said 16 inches a day or so ago.  A few years back they had 16 inches only a week before official ice out.  60s to even 70s next weekend.  It will be gone before opener. I'm planning on docks and lifts next weekend, but I am in a small protected bay that goes out pretty early.

We need optimism right now. The small bays haven't even opened up yet, which is typically two weeks before the big bays lose their ice. The forecast is in our favor though and I see that it's windy today, also a great sign.

Go to the DMV, see if there's a serial number on it. They should be able to title it

I moved my blind right into the middle of the field after I left this morning.  It sticks out like a sore thumb on the landscape.  A friend advised me to try this.  We'll see if it works later.  I hate the way it looks without blending in, but I have to try something else.

For a long time I've been getting pop-ups and error pages where I have to back page. I just thought it was the price of playing in the old sand lot! 🤔
