Can anyone give an update on the ice conditions out of Hunters Point. I plan on going out near Nitti's this weekend for the first time this season. I've heard the East side isn't so good. 1/2 ton trucks okay or sleds/atv's only?

I will also be up there this weekend. The last I heard was George is constructing two 36 foot bridges to get over the cracks along shore. With the colder temps at night during this week he was hoping things would heal up a bit. Any updates would be much appreciated!

When I talked to George the other day, he was waiting for a bridge to span 140' of bad ice, but they still weren't driving on it. Hope he gets it in place for the weekend.

Still looking for more info on ice conditions if anyone has any input...

Any colors producing more than others out of Hunters Point?

We just got back from Hunters Point....this morning they put a new section of bridge over the crack...tonight when we came off, they were working feverishly, laying down plywood and whatever else it is that they do and there was lots of water!

If this weather continues, if I go up again, I'm bringing the 3 wheeler!

Two of us got after them, the fish were there, but not interested, we got a bunch of perch....little perch....kept 5 and the biggest was about 11"...got two walleyes one about 6" long and one about 25"...the wind came up this evening and made it pretty chilly out in the open...we packed it up about 6:00.

Hey Grebe!I was out at the flats today also!Marked fish in some areas but they were never very aggressive.Ended up with a couple perch and a couple eater walleyes.

Sounds like George is still trying to span the bad ice with a bridge, but the pressure ridge keeps moving on him. As of now they are driving out with 14-16". Seems hard to beleive though there's that much ice though.

JLT...I must have walked 326 miles between holes yesterday!

I wound up cutting 30 holes at 2 different locations, so we could each deadstick one and jig fish the other.

I finally shut the vex off, it was maddening watching them come up and then sink back down. We were in about 28 feet of water. We tried from 25 to 30 feet, same response all over....once in awhile a kamakasi would come in, but that was about it.

I hear ya Grebe.I must have drilled 8-15 holes at every flat we went to.Top,edge, and the deep nowhere on the flats.Fished all the holes with the same reults.I don't know how you could shut off your electronics and still fish though?LOL!! shocked.gif

When my bud gets back from Mexico, we are gonna give it another shot...the fish were there, something, maybe the weather pattern, kept them from biting?

Ya, 120.00 sux. I have Access Broadband, they just raised their rate from 50.00 to 75.00. I'm lucky to get 3 to 5 mbts up or down, sometimes I'll get better. In fairness to them, they have been great trying to respond to my needs, but just can't improve my service. They said that they doubt I'll ever be able to stream a Wild game. I just purchased a new streaming box and it buffers none stop. With the new streaming box and the referral discount, I'll be able to cancel Sling, so, I'll save about 10.00 on my monthly bill. That's what I told my wife 😀 it's true...

That's a better price than when I bought a few years ago. I pulled the giant box across the ice on an old Radio Flyer sled late winter.   Good luck. You'll enjoy Starlink, except for paying the bill. Mine was originally $100/mo, then $110/mo, then they said I was in a low usage area so they dropped my bill to $90/mo for the last two years. I just got a letter a month or so ago saying that we are now in a "high usage" area so they raised it to $120/mo.

I did the app thing. The best place is the middle of my yard and that's not going to happen. I have a tripod stand and a "J" type stand. I've also looked at trimming some trees for a better view of the sky. Once I get it, I'll have to try different areas. Maybe I'll have to hire a guy to climb my tree and install it- I've seen YouTube videos on that. Middle of my roof looks to be somewhat clear, but I don't like to put holes in the shingles. Plus, it's a 12/12 pitch and I don't have Velcro shoes. If anyone is looking to buy Starlink, it's on sale till 4/30 at $159.00. If you do buy it, I can give to a referral code and we'll both get a free month.

With the current conditions and weather forecast I would still stick to Sunday, May 4th.  I almost guarantee Vermilion will be ice-free by the opener on May 10th.  Very likely someone on the list will have the correct date.

Black Bay began opening yesterday afternoon. I could see ice moving around in the middle.

I've got it too. It works great if you can get a clear view of the sky, works decent if there are blockages. I had to take down two trees and still have branches that reach out and interrupt.   Some people have their dish mounted on shore which probably helps a lot. You can download the Starlink app and then walk around your property. It will assess any spot to see if you'll get enough coverage.

I've seen them at the Cub in Minnetonka and just a few weeks ago, the Cub in Chanhassen. The little smelt, smaller than sardines.
