To those of you that will be going to the get-together on Saturday: there is a video clip on the ice fishing page (this site) showing a bunch of long nosed gar. Pretty cool vid.

I have seen gar on German in the kettle while bass fishing. The "kettle" is the shallow area behind the island. Anyway, cool video. It would be neat if one of you get the chance to tangle with a gar. I would have liked to tangle with Teri Garr about 10 years ago!

I caught a long nose Gar on the backwaters of the Mississippi when I was about 10 years old and that is a neat fish.Wouldnt mind catching a Terri Garr but I dont know where to catch one.

I saw that video. I wonder if there will be less swimmers this summer in the Fergus Falls area.

I saw that video too. That was a heck of a lot of gar...now just imagine if that was walleyes!!! I snagged into a smaller one on Lake Titloe where my folks live. That was really weird. There are only a few fish that swim that can freak me out a bit, and that's one of them. I didn't even touch it. Took the needlenose pliers and got my hook out and put it back in. The other fish I just HATE to catch are the dogfish, eelpout, and the paddlefish....YUCK! I've caught or snagged (paddlefish) each one of these species and let me tell ya...they're pretty disgusting. Especially the eelpout...those suckers wrap around your arm when you touch them!

Anyway, I'm rambling. I did see that video and that was pretty cool.

I hate catching gar. But those paddle fish a good eating if you can snag into one. Use to snag them in Iowa.

Ya, 120.00 sux. I have Access Broadband, they just raised their rate from 50.00 to 75.00. I'm lucky to get 3 to 5 mbts up or down, sometimes I'll get better. In fairness to them, they have been great trying to respond to my needs, but just can't improve my service. They said that they doubt I'll ever be able to stream a Wild game. I just purchased a new streaming box and it buffers none stop. With the new streaming box and the referral discount, I'll be able to cancel Sling, so, I'll save about 10.00 on my monthly bill. That's what I told my wife 😀 it's true...

That's a better price than when I bought a few years ago. I pulled the giant box across the ice on an old Radio Flyer sled late winter.   Good luck. You'll enjoy Starlink, except for paying the bill. Mine was originally $100/mo, then $110/mo, then they said I was in a low usage area so they dropped my bill to $90/mo for the last two years. I just got a letter a month or so ago saying that we are now in a "high usage" area so they raised it to $120/mo.

I did the app thing. The best place is the middle of my yard and that's not going to happen. I have a tripod stand and a "J" type stand. I've also looked at trimming some trees for a better view of the sky. Once I get it, I'll have to try different areas. Maybe I'll have to hire a guy to climb my tree and install it- I've seen YouTube videos on that. Middle of my roof looks to be somewhat clear, but I don't like to put holes in the shingles. Plus, it's a 12/12 pitch and I don't have Velcro shoes. If anyone is looking to buy Starlink, it's on sale till 4/30 at $159.00. If you do buy it, I can give to a referral code and we'll both get a free month.

With the current conditions and weather forecast I would still stick to Sunday, May 4th.  I almost guarantee Vermilion will be ice-free by the opener on May 10th.  Very likely someone on the list will have the correct date.

Black Bay began opening yesterday afternoon. I could see ice moving around in the middle.

I've got it too. It works great if you can get a clear view of the sky, works decent if there are blockages. I had to take down two trees and still have branches that reach out and interrupt.   Some people have their dish mounted on shore which probably helps a lot. You can download the Starlink app and then walk around your property. It will assess any spot to see if you'll get enough coverage.

I've seen them at the Cub in Minnetonka and just a few weeks ago, the Cub in Chanhassen. The little smelt, smaller than sardines.
