I am new to ice fishing. I love to fish, but my parents were never outdoorsy. Since I could get out on the ice I have been out every day I have off. I have hit S Center almost all year. Last night I tried S Lindstrom across from the DinnerBell. All with little luck. I had one decent night of crappie action. Obviously everyone would like to catch walleyes. Could Someone give me some hints on the lakes around that area. E mail me at [email protected]. Also, Where is this A frame on chisago I keep hearing about?

Mike- walleye lakes in the metro area are kept fairly quiet usually. In our area, South Center and North Center probably have the highest populations of fish, Both Green and Chisago have walleyes, and are usually larger but fewer! Rush lake is a bit north of us but also usually has a fairly decent population of walleyes.

All of our lakes in the area have a pretty good population of Crappies and sunfish. At times you can even run into some larger ones. If your looking for action, I would head out to South Center again by pancake island. The fish may not be large, but you should find some. A small jig with a few eurolarve may be the ticket for them.

The A Frame is about half way down the shoreline on chisago on the east shoreline. Its a Green A frame house on the shore. The only real problem with this spot is that we cant drive out yet.. and its a long walk from anywhere that you can park.

I would let you tag along with me some day, but my weekends are booked for the next month...

Thank you for the info. I have maps for the area, and thought that pancake island might be decent. That too is kind of a long walk though isn't it? I was hoping that the A Frame would be in walking distance, but might have to wait until next year. I love the area. The lakes are so varied there. This Summer I caught my first big fish. A 6.5 lb largemouth. I took a picture and threw it back. As every one should do if they enjoy catching larger fish. And to believe I caught it out of a row boat on Linwood. Technology that.... LOL Hope to see you out there and good luck.

Under normal years people will drive out and park on the ice off the main point on South Center.. a walk to pancake island is not far from there. However, with ice the way it is this season, thats not a very good idea. People have been pulling gear or sledding from the Porterhouse parking lot on HWY 8.. that is the nearest access to the lake now.

On a side note, we do have some of the best open water bass fishing in the state... DId you ust move here? and where do you live now? Also if looking for walleye, Big Marine lake is a fair walleye lake as well... Your best bet if you want to catch walleye would be the hour drive to mille lacs...

Mike...stop in at Frankies and ask them how to get close to the A-frame to park and walk out. There is a spot and its a short walk out.

Mike

i usually hit the area with my ATV and pull the trailer behind, if I am not going with the family you are free to come along. The ATV is a 2 seater but the trailer has room to ride also.

drop me an email maybe we can hook up, I have a few spots I have had luck on that I can share. I am heading up there in a few minutes.
