Heard some decent walleye fishing was being done near Redwing. Is the water open enough to fish from a boat? if so can you launch from Evertt's Resort? any updates would be appreciated.

Yep, Everetts is open pretty much year round. With these warm temps there is plenty of open water to fish. Sauger and walleye are still biting too.

I was out last Friday. Some guys were doing real well fishing plastics. We managed 30 or so fish in about 5 hours and were able to bring home 10 saugers.

The Wisconsin channel launch looked clean and free of ice on Friday 01/06, there were two boats that had launched there. We had already planned to meet and launch from Everts, which is always the safe bet this time of year.

With the warmer weather, ice flows are starting to break loose from shore, be careful when motoring.

Aren't those walleyes? Just wondering cause you said you kept 10 saugers.

Walleye's don't have spots on their fins.

Must be saugeyes then, because I thought that the tell tale sign of a walleye was the white on the bottom of the tail. Maybe we could get some enlightenment from one of the mods. Just for my own curiosity. Could just be glare. Either way a nice mess of fish!

Those are saugers. The white spot of a walleye is white. Saugers do have a cream color to the bottom of the tail. Saugeyes get very tricky. They range from looking almost like sauger to looking almost like walleyes. Even the DNR C can't be sure. I've caught Pool 4 saugeyes with the walleye white spot on the tail and no spots on the fins but they did have a slightly mottled sauger side. Only matters when keeping fish and that can be solved by sticking with the walleye minimum of 15". And yes the bite is really good right now.

Thanks for the explanation Mark. laugh.gif

Ya, 120.00 sux. I have Access Broadband, they just raised their rate from 50.00 to 75.00. I'm lucky to get 3 to 5 mbts up or down, sometimes I'll get better. In fairness to them, they have been great trying to respond to my needs, but just can't improve my service. They said that they doubt I'll ever be able to stream a Wild game. I just purchased a new streaming box and it buffers none stop. With the new streaming box and the referral discount, I'll be able to cancel Sling, so, I'll save about 10.00 on my monthly bill. That's what I told my wife 😀 it's true...

That's a better price than when I bought a few years ago. I pulled the giant box across the ice on an old Radio Flyer sled late winter.   Good luck. You'll enjoy Starlink, except for paying the bill. Mine was originally $100/mo, then $110/mo, then they said I was in a low usage area so they dropped my bill to $90/mo for the last two years. I just got a letter a month or so ago saying that we are now in a "high usage" area so they raised it to $120/mo.

I did the app thing. The best place is the middle of my yard and that's not going to happen. I have a tripod stand and a "J" type stand. I've also looked at trimming some trees for a better view of the sky. Once I get it, I'll have to try different areas. Maybe I'll have to hire a guy to climb my tree and install it- I've seen YouTube videos on that. Middle of my roof looks to be somewhat clear, but I don't like to put holes in the shingles. Plus, it's a 12/12 pitch and I don't have Velcro shoes. If anyone is looking to buy Starlink, it's on sale till 4/30 at $159.00. If you do buy it, I can give to a referral code and we'll both get a free month.

With the current conditions and weather forecast I would still stick to Sunday, May 4th.  I almost guarantee Vermilion will be ice-free by the opener on May 10th.  Very likely someone on the list will have the correct date.

Black Bay began opening yesterday afternoon. I could see ice moving around in the middle.

I've got it too. It works great if you can get a clear view of the sky, works decent if there are blockages. I had to take down two trees and still have branches that reach out and interrupt.   Some people have their dish mounted on shore which probably helps a lot. You can download the Starlink app and then walk around your property. It will assess any spot to see if you'll get enough coverage.

I've seen them at the Cub in Minnetonka and just a few weeks ago, the Cub in Chanhassen. The little smelt, smaller than sardines.
