What kind of a repair are we talking about? Not that i can make it, but are we talking about something major?

What brand of sled? Arctic Cat or Polaris? There is a guy just outside of Warroad that will works on Cats. He's working on my sled as I type this. He seems to have a great rep and dependable. I also know of a guy who works on Polaris but have never delt with him. He's a little further out of Warroad. Drop me your email and I can get you that info.

If you want the best, there is only one guy to see. Hands down, it's John Grad. Grad's Small Engine is located on Co Rd #2 E, about 2 and a half miles east of Co Rd #5 south of Warroad. I've never seen anybody that can diagnose a small engine problem as fast as John can. He is just an outstanding small engine mechanic and also a heck of a nice guy. If you tell John I said that, of course I'll deny it! grin.gifwink.gif No I am not related to John. What I have stated here is no brag, just fact! 1DIRTBALL wink.gif

THANKS! I know this is a fishing forum but i knew someone on here could help. Nothing major(thnkgod), least not for now. Last night it died on me after i slowed down to turn around. Just went slower n slower. Kinda like what it did last time i blew it up. musta been some water in the gas line or something with all these temperature fluctuations and condensation. All i know is it fired right up today. I guess it isnt anything an ArcticCat guy couldnt handle but it is a Polaris.

Ther is still somethin goin on. Yesterday and today, it wont idle after bein run. It idles good when first started and bein warmed up. The problem is after i`ve been runnin it for a while, then stop, it wont idle at all. Boggs right down. i know its not gettin loaded up. Was runnin it pretty good today (groomers were out today!!!). Prob need a good tuneup. I know there are some excellent mechanics around here. Really dont wanna take it to the dealer. was charged this summer for like 58$ labor for .6 hours work on my boat(do the math). cant complain that they get u in and u dint have to wait forever, but im not gonna give anyone the glory of over 110$ hour labor for boltin on a hitch.

If you ask me who the best sled mechanic is Dwane, from D&S Storage at the NW Angle. Really took care of me when i had a meltdown way up by Stony Point. Towed it i dont know how many miles to his shop in -30 cold, no kiddin. A ways up there. Id drive up if i knew i could fish but im with only a 2WD truck. Thats why i need my sled fixxed.

Thanks again for the help!!!

I just sent you an email. Hope it helps and good luck. It doesn't sound good based on what your describing.

John Grad is great... The old widetrack is coming in for a little TLC pretty soon...

Duane at the Angle is my next neighbor up there, and has saved many a trips for me. The guy can fix anything...

Both Great.

I'm not so sure that we're talking about a melt-down here. If it runs good some of the time. Sounds to me like a carb. issue and/or water in the gas. It runs good right away because the carbs don't need as much fuel. When you get to trail speeds it's a different story, more gas is required and something isn't allowing the fuel to get into the carb. Maybe a fuel line is freezing up, maybe a float in the carb is stuck. Like you said, just a general tune-up should cure things.

take plugs out check compression should problay be well over 100 lbs. more like 120 shoud also be even on both sides.Pull plugs and see if they are the same color also,if not you may have a ring problem. Dont know what kind of sled you have but they all need compression fuel timing to run.Sometimes on some of the older ones the center seal will go out.Change plugs if you havent yet and try run it again. If it runs the same you best have some one tear in to it.

Nice to have an enlightenment on what can happen rather than just coming to the conclusion that it is broke. Spark plugs were fine, color of a hershey bar. Runs good, just after i stop running it is when i seem to have problems. Definitly something goin on. Just hope to get the thing in and out and back on the trail. The groomers were out and got a nice coating of snow last night. Will have to concentrate more on the fishing for now. Thnks again
