How are the evening bites on S. Center and Chisago Going? Thinking of going out a couple nights this week and was wondering what some of you think about the evening bite. Interested in crappies, sunnies and maybe walleyes if they are biting.

Posted

Dan, was out during the day this past Sunday on Chisago and caught sunnies, crappies and lost a fairly decent size fish (maybe a walleye) that I lost when trying to get my Vexilar transducer out of the hole. Was fishing in the morning though but was fun in the morning anyways. Will be trying again hopefully on Saturday with my son if things work out. The sunnies were small but were fun to catch. Comfort Lake has been very slow and got nixed the Sunday prior. Can't figure out a way to get out on North Center with the ice being unsafe and wished I could get out there. Did well on the channel since oging out about a couple of weeks ago. Any luck with you recently?

I have not fished much around home lately, that is why i had to make the post. I have gone out on green a few times since its in my back yard but only had luck in the day. The bite really seems to pick up from 4-6pm. It seems like the only time i have to fish this week is in the PM though so im looking for any tips i can get on some spots. I might just head out to the channel on chisago or by the dinnerbell.

Norteastern, i might be around on saturday if i don't leave for school, if i am, i would love to do some fishin.

I have been out on Chisago twice in the last month. Both times the evening bite was hot. Crappies and bluegills. I didnt make it out last week, but my brother in law did well both Sat. and Sun. We have been fishing the south end by the A frame using moon glos and waxies.

I am new to ice fishing. I love to fish, but my parents were never outdoorsy. Since I could get out on the ice I have been out every day I have off. I have hit S Center almost all year. Last night I tried S Lindstrom across from the DinnerBell. All with little luck. I had one decent night of crappie action. Obviously everyone would like to catch walleyes. Could Someone give me some hints on the lakes around that area. E mail me at [email protected]. Also, Where is this A frame on chisago I keep hearing about?

Its an A-frame cabin on the East side of the lake just before you get to the south bay where the lake narrows a bit. Good luck!

I too was out by the dinnerbell last night. I had some success but nothing to brag about. The fish were hugged to the bottom and the only thing i could get them to bite on was a small horizontal jig with euro larvae (sitting still). Might try Chisago on thursday night, sounds like they will bite at night.

Dan- where you going to fish? I was thinking of just throwing my boots and stuff in the truck and fishing for an hour or so on the way home from work.

Posted

Yeah I am thinking about trying just outside of the bay on the dinnerbell side towards the hole. Maybe I will get a few eyes along the fall line. Does anyone know if there is any veg on the bottom out there??

Posted

No veg!.. Chisago and Lindstrom get very weedy in the early spring(curly pond weed) however, that dies in mid to lake july, then the lake gets fairly green. The weedline then dies back to about 5 feet... So not much for weeds come winter time.

Deitz, just got word that i won't be able to fish on thurs unless i get out in the early afternoon. You are probably busy on Friday heading to some weekend trip but i think ill be fishing all day fri in the area. If you are around it would be great to do some fishing with ya.

Dan,

I will be out at the Dinnerbel on Saturday around 1:00pm fishing near the hole. Will be in a Guide out there. Maybe we can meet up then before you go back.

Hey Nortestrn- you tried lake 3 this season? Might pickup a northern or two off willow pt

Nort,

Sounds like a go except for 1 little thing, a buddy of mine just called me tonight and asked if i wanted to head to Mille Lacs on Sat. If we don't go i will head out to dinnerbell for sure. Have you ever tried north lindstrom across the bridge? I always see a house or two out there throughout the year. I will be out and about in the chisago area tommorow though, s. center and chisago probably.

Dan, hope you have good luck on Mille Lacs on saturday if you go. I wanted to go up there this weekend also renting from McQuiods for the full moon weekend but my plans did not pan out and will be going up there at the end of the month. Airhook, have not tried lake 3 yet but is in the works of hitting up this year. Like to get a hold of some of the bigger northerns in there for some flag chasing. and might give her a try next weekend. Good fishing this weekend to everyone.

I've been fishing North Center most of the year. I have had poor luck during the day but the evenings have produced a few small walleyes. Around 5-9 in the evening is when I do the best. I was fishing with jigs and shiners earlier in the year but have since switched to a plain hook and fat heads. I switched minnows because while fileting a few of the walleyes I found a bunch of small shiner type minnows in their stomachs. They weren't crappie minnow size but about the size of a fat head. So I figured if their is plenty for them to eat, an agressive jig presentation probably wasn't the way to go so I switched to a non-threatening plain black hook, and that has made the difference for me. Some days are just slow though. Hope this helps and good luck. And please nobody drive out on the ice I've heard to many bad stories already this year.

hey WOW,

I had luck all the way at the north end in 12-15fow in the evening for walleyes last winter, but have not made it out there this year. Has that depth held true this year for you?

There’s critters out and about.  Get yourself some cellular trail cams and you’ll see.

It wouldn't be the first time I've heard the USS Skunked Again breaking ice! I left this morning, the rain really did a number to the ice. I'll bet the Partridge River will be open by the weekend.

My yard is pretty open, but narrow. I think I'll be fine with reception in the areas I'm thinking. I try to keep the hill somewhat natural, but my wife wants to see the lake better. The video's I've watched, they have topped the trees and mounted the dish. I would this the swaying would affect the signal. Does Starlink help you with using WiFi for calling? My T-Mobile service sux at the cabin. Did you bury your cable?

I'm on the wide part of the channel going in to Black Bay. We won't see Paul B. For years.

Welcome back. Wow it's been since 2018 it looks like. Did you ever "I'm tightening up my footprint and want to build on my Bozeman lot on the Gallatin"?  😏

You're probably right. This isn't official since I've already lost, but I'll make my supplemental guess for May 6th since it's still open. 😄   As long as I can snake my way along the shore and/or plow through some dark ice on the 8th, I'll be happy. I love aluminum boats!

For all of my "problems" with getting a clear signal it's worth it. I can spend more time at the lake because I can work during the day and play or get things done at night. Toss in that I can record and watch a football/hockey/basketball game when I'm done at the end of the day....priceless.   Like your place, our property is more natural and I was worried about having to cut down a bunch of trees. I like that people have to get up close to see our place from the lake through the trees. Luckily I didn't have to do much to get enough a signal that works for me. If I needed to be on video calls, I probably would run the dish down to the shore to get a better view of the sky.   BTW - the main problem with mounting the dish on a tree is that the tree still has a canopy that will block the signal. The best option would be to top a tree and then mount it on the clear-cut top.
