I fished a local trib last night with not much happening. Marked a few fish, but couldn't get a taker (not even on a Zipper!) The ice conditions weren't very good. I fished on top of 4" of bad ice, on top of 4" of water", on top of 8" of good ice. However, with the warm up that is predicted, it'll deteriorate the ice even more. Be very careful if you venture out on the ice. The spot I was at virtually always has good ice this time of year. Many or most spots will have shady or terrible ice conditions until we get a really good cold snap.

Ed, have you been finding the same thing?

Its nice seeing someone say something about the rivers!!!! The ice where I have been around south fargo has been ok at most. Some places where there is no current ive seen 2 feet and others places ive seen only 6 inches. I havent gone close to any dams yet though. The fishing has been terrible. Not much worth talking about. I go out about 4-5 times a week and i havent caught more then 3 fish each time. I would think Oxbow would be good but im not gonna try it unless the weather gets cold!!!

Good luck!!

Where have you been fishing south of Fargo? I live in Forest River and would be interested in going out.

I live on 52nd ave. so Ive been around that area!!! If you live in Forest River isnt that kind off close where the wild rice runs into the red????? I have heard of people having good luck there for walleyes and northerns in the past!!! I have never fished there in the winter but i would like to try sometime. I have had the best luck down by the Oxbow dam and a little downstream for walleyes. Caught a 8 pounder down there last year!!!

I know its easy to catch goldeneyes in the day time pretty much anywhere on the river. But at night is when the eyes start to bite or early morning. The bite has been very very slow where ive been going. But i havent tried any of my normal spots though. Im kinda trying diffent things this year, just to see what happens and its not working very good.

Good Luck

Yeah, I saw my buddy beach a nice 5 pound walleye at Oxbow this past September - they're in there alright!

Guys, be extremely careful of any ice downstream of any of the dams right now. I'd be very leary of anything within a mile or so of a dam. Lots of shaky ice out there right now and I don't want to read about any of you in the paper for the wrong reasons.

I'll be doing some more snooping over the next few weeks trying to pinpoint some more productive areas. One of my favorite spots on a trib doesn't seem to be producing or holding much for baitfish this year so I'll be doing more exploring.

There’s critters out and about.  Get yourself some cellular trail cams and you’ll see.

It wouldn't be the first time I've heard the USS Skunked Again breaking ice! I left this morning, the rain really did a number to the ice. I'll bet the Partridge River will be open by the weekend.

My yard is pretty open, but narrow. I think I'll be fine with reception in the areas I'm thinking. I try to keep the hill somewhat natural, but my wife wants to see the lake better. The video's I've watched, they have topped the trees and mounted the dish. I would this the swaying would affect the signal. Does Starlink help you with using WiFi for calling? My T-Mobile service sux at the cabin. Did you bury your cable?

I'm on the wide part of the channel going in to Black Bay. We won't see Paul B. For years.

Welcome back. Wow it's been since 2018 it looks like. Did you ever "I'm tightening up my footprint and want to build on my Bozeman lot on the Gallatin"?  😏

You're probably right. This isn't official since I've already lost, but I'll make my supplemental guess for May 6th since it's still open. 😄   As long as I can snake my way along the shore and/or plow through some dark ice on the 8th, I'll be happy. I love aluminum boats!

For all of my "problems" with getting a clear signal it's worth it. I can spend more time at the lake because I can work during the day and play or get things done at night. Toss in that I can record and watch a football/hockey/basketball game when I'm done at the end of the day....priceless.   Like your place, our property is more natural and I was worried about having to cut down a bunch of trees. I like that people have to get up close to see our place from the lake through the trees. Luckily I didn't have to do much to get enough a signal that works for me. If I needed to be on video calls, I probably would run the dish down to the shore to get a better view of the sky.   BTW - the main problem with mounting the dish on a tree is that the tree still has a canopy that will block the signal. The best option would be to top a tree and then mount it on the clear-cut top.
