After too dang long, I finally have a home computer, access to the net and can reconnect with my internet buds. Moved to Proctor in November and now need to start researching the fishing around Duluth. Any info you can share will be greatly appreciated. I am looking for decent panfish lakes to hit for ice fishing. Any suggestions? Thanks, Best of all to you and yours, Happy New Years and here's hoping your frying pan is filled with tasty filets from time to time!

Thanks,

Welcome to Duluth! If you are looking for lots of action fish pike lake for perch and walleyes. You will have to do some sorting the perch run small. A few nice eyes mixed in with the perch. Or head down the rd to Caribou lake for crappies and bluegills. your best bet for bluegills is waxies on the edge of weedlines. Crappies try the deeper parts of the lake. Hope this helps a little good luck!

Tom welcome to the area. In addition to those try Nichols, Elora, Comstock, Fish, and Island (near Barnum)lakes. They all have crappies, Nichols and Fish also are good for gills.

Surface can you tell me which of those lakes near barnum that you would recommend for good panfish but also a pike or two on tip ups.i will not be from the barnum areas next weekend.

roosterslayer, I rarely go south to fish and Island lake out of Barnum is one of the few lakes I hit for crappies there. When you have suspended crappies in an area your going to have pike targeting those crappies. So if your into crappies stick your tipup near by. Suspend your bait it at or above the level your seeing the crappies at.

Island Lake is actually about 10 miles south of Barnum by the town of Moose Lake. Bear Lake by Barnum is good for panfish. Island is too. Island Lake has many big Pike and is stocked with Muskies too.

Try Echo lake oputside of Moose Lake (city) in the state park. You have to buy a day pass but you can walk out from the beach area and be in 20-30' of water and also be close close enough to put a tip up out. If you look at the lake map you can see where to go. Do good on the crappies and smaller snakes on the tips>>>. Also a good little lake is lake twelve on the anderson rd. Tons of crappies you have to sort at this lake to take home a nice limit but for kids its great. The back bay is putting out now 25-30'fow [email protected]

Thanks roosterslayer. Did end up on Boulder on Tuesday afternoon, due to limited auger sharpness we stuck to one spot and got one hit, 8' deep, 1 16" walleye at 4:50 PM, using blue jig and fathead. That was all that happened. We marked lookers but I guess we just didn't have the right spot, or right lure/bait. dat's fishin'! Thanks again and good luck!

Pop ups have increased for me for a while now.  Timed to cover my usual taps about the time I would tap.

So there is a boat on a friend's property, has been there for about 4 years, with no contact from owner, and she is unreachable. It was last registered in 2020. Is there any way for him to make it his, legally?

I'm getting a lot of popups adds. Just wondering if it's just my computer or is every one getting them?

Birds at home have been quiet and out of sight.  Not sure where they went.  Last year they wouldn’t respond to calls - until they did.  But that will be common until the girls quit being friendly.

I've seen about 60 turkeys in 1.5 days of hunting thus far.  Unfortunately they are not responding to calls or decoys and the only birds that have walked within range are hens.   It's just a waiting game now.  Deer hunting for turkeys, hoping a legal one walks past before I have to quit in a few days...

A bunch of webcams available these days to see progress as well:   https://lakevermilionresorts.com/webcams/   Looks to be pulling away from shore. I expect ice out between next Friday and Sunday based on temps in the forecast.  Some sun and then some wind would get it going quickly.

But wait Meg, there's more!   Anyway, do you like fishing?  Trolling's kind of fun!  🤭

Well lol, Google is your friend! 🤭     Yes, the 2012 movie "Loon Lake" was filmed in Minnesota. Specifically, it was shot in southwest Minnesota, with locations including Round Lake, Pioneer Village, and Jackson County. The film is also based on a local legend from southwest Minnesota about a witch who lived by Loon Lake.

Well indeed there is a movie and the trailer will help you near down the 25 lakes a lot by just checking into the Loon Lakes in Southwest, MN.  Should be easy now. Have fun.    Eager to escape the grief and nightmares of the city, Louis Olsen travels to Southwest Minnesota, seeking the peace of the rural countryside. When he accidentally disturbs the grave of a supposed local 'witch' Mary Jane Terlinden, what began as a peaceful reprieve unravels into a haunting nightmare from which Louis cannot escape - but is it all just in his head?

Great. That's usually a good sign for ice break-up.
