Poorly running Sunflower style heaters

Question

Posted

I've owned several brands of sunflower heaters and have had the same problem with them all. After a year or two of use, they begin to run poorly. Very similar to when your tank is running out, except that the tank is not empty. Does anyone know what part to replace to fix this?

Thanks.... igotem

Tear it apart and give it a good cleaning. Pay attention to the little orifice where the propane comes out. If there is any little obstruction this will cause poor performance. My buddy was ready to break down and buy a new one and I told him to bring it in and let me look at it. I took it home and gave it a good cleaning with compressed air and it works like new again. Those little burners are pretty simple. I would start with a cleaning and see what happens from there...

I'd have to say a dirty orifice as well. The opening is tiny so it doesn't take much to plug it. A very thin wire works but don't force it or you'll enlarge the hole and it'll be useless to you.

Thanks for the info, gave it a good cleaning last night and it's running beautifully. I may not even need it if this weather holds!

THAT AVATAR DOESN'T HAPPEN TO BE FROM THE BW? SAY DANIELS?

HEY HERE IS ANOTHER QUESTION........HAVE YOU GUYS EVER HAD YOUR SUNFLOWER MAKE LOTS OF NOISE WHEN IT IS COLD AND RUNNING ON LOW? SOUNDS LIKE A HOWLING

Mine is new this year and it usually does that the first 5 or 10 seconds while it's warming up. Besides the fact that it's annoying, it's really nothing to worry about.

Mine sounds like a trumpet from time to time... especially when it's warming up.. I've heard of some guys having good luck cleaning the orifice out and that has taken care of the problem... what I typically do (since I haven't cleaned the orifice yet) is to put my fingers over one of the air holes on the tube of the heater a couple of times and that seems to take care of it...

I've had a cooker sound like a trumpet too when its warming up.

I stick my finger over the air inlet also, just keep your head back because it can flame up a little.

Pop ups have increased for me for a while now.  Timed to cover my usual taps about the time I would tap.

So there is a boat on a friend's property, has been there for about 4 years, with no contact from owner, and she is unreachable. It was last registered in 2020. Is there any way for him to make it his, legally?

I'm getting a lot of popups adds. Just wondering if it's just my computer or is every one getting them?

Birds at home have been quiet and out of sight.  Not sure where they went.  Last year they wouldn’t respond to calls - until they did.  But that will be common until the girls quit being friendly.

I've seen about 60 turkeys in 1.5 days of hunting thus far.  Unfortunately they are not responding to calls or decoys and the only birds that have walked within range are hens.   It's just a waiting game now.  Deer hunting for turkeys, hoping a legal one walks past before I have to quit in a few days...

A bunch of webcams available these days to see progress as well:   https://lakevermilionresorts.com/webcams/   Looks to be pulling away from shore. I expect ice out between next Friday and Sunday based on temps in the forecast.  Some sun and then some wind would get it going quickly.

But wait Meg, there's more!   Anyway, do you like fishing?  Trolling's kind of fun!  🤭

Well lol, Google is your friend! 🤭     Yes, the 2012 movie "Loon Lake" was filmed in Minnesota. Specifically, it was shot in southwest Minnesota, with locations including Round Lake, Pioneer Village, and Jackson County. The film is also based on a local legend from southwest Minnesota about a witch who lived by Loon Lake.

Well indeed there is a movie and the trailer will help you near down the 25 lakes a lot by just checking into the Loon Lakes in Southwest, MN.  Should be easy now. Have fun.    Eager to escape the grief and nightmares of the city, Louis Olsen travels to Southwest Minnesota, seeking the peace of the rural countryside. When he accidentally disturbs the grave of a supposed local 'witch' Mary Jane Terlinden, what began as a peaceful reprieve unravels into a haunting nightmare from which Louis cannot escape - but is it all just in his head?

Great. That's usually a good sign for ice break-up.
