I have never fished lakers through the ice and may have that opportunity this weekend. I fish a lot for panfish and walleyes under the ice and have all the gear for that. Can any of you here steer me in the direction of what to buy for lakers that will be somewhat reasonable on the pocketbook? I am looking to not spend more that 50-60 bucks on the rdd/reel combo. Thanks!

Jiggin:

You can use the search feature on this site and find lots of threads about lakers and equipment.

But simply spool up one of your summer spinning reels with 12 lb mono and go spend less than $15 on a rod. Polar makes an excellent 34-inch spinning rod that's perfect for lakers. I bought mine 5 years ago at Gander for $12, so they're still probably $15 or less. It is the HT Polar Lites 34" heavy PL-34H. While it's heavy, it ain't no broomstick. It's got great action.

If you have any Angel Eyes, we've found them to be a sweet jiggin spoon for the lakers as well. Tip with ciscoe or smelt. Pimples are my usual goto. Nothing fancy, straight chrome or gold. If you have a decent 5500 or other baitcaster, those work well on a laker rod. Work the whole column for starters as they'll dive or rise for the bait. Good luck!

Pop ups have increased for me for a while now.  Timed to cover my usual taps about the time I would tap.

So there is a boat on a friend's property, has been there for about 4 years, with no contact from owner, and she is unreachable. It was last registered in 2020. Is there any way for him to make it his, legally?

I'm getting a lot of popups adds. Just wondering if it's just my computer or is every one getting them?

Birds at home have been quiet and out of sight.  Not sure where they went.  Last year they wouldn’t respond to calls - until they did.  But that will be common until the girls quit being friendly.

I've seen about 60 turkeys in 1.5 days of hunting thus far.  Unfortunately they are not responding to calls or decoys and the only birds that have walked within range are hens.   It's just a waiting game now.  Deer hunting for turkeys, hoping a legal one walks past before I have to quit in a few days...

A bunch of webcams available these days to see progress as well:   https://lakevermilionresorts.com/webcams/   Looks to be pulling away from shore. I expect ice out between next Friday and Sunday based on temps in the forecast.  Some sun and then some wind would get it going quickly.

But wait Meg, there's more!   Anyway, do you like fishing?  Trolling's kind of fun!  🤭

Well lol, Google is your friend! 🤭     Yes, the 2012 movie "Loon Lake" was filmed in Minnesota. Specifically, it was shot in southwest Minnesota, with locations including Round Lake, Pioneer Village, and Jackson County. The film is also based on a local legend from southwest Minnesota about a witch who lived by Loon Lake.

Well indeed there is a movie and the trailer will help you near down the 25 lakes a lot by just checking into the Loon Lakes in Southwest, MN.  Should be easy now. Have fun.    Eager to escape the grief and nightmares of the city, Louis Olsen travels to Southwest Minnesota, seeking the peace of the rural countryside. When he accidentally disturbs the grave of a supposed local 'witch' Mary Jane Terlinden, what began as a peaceful reprieve unravels into a haunting nightmare from which Louis cannot escape - but is it all just in his head?

Great. That's usually a good sign for ice break-up.
