I promised a report on our URL expedition. Twelve 6-16" walleye and four small perch for four people for two days. Sorry to report that the crappies were not biting around us this weekend although we did hear of one or two here and there. Neighbor house landed a 41", 17-pound northern and there was another 39-incher close by. We still had a great time but now it's back to the real world. Anyone want to buy some left-over minnows?

Wow the reports don't seem too promising...

What access did you use?

Its slow right now. No doubt about that. I've even been a tad disappointed in the walleye bite myself. Which leads me to believe, if the walleyes aren't eating, the crappies aren't either. grin.gif

I fished both Hillman's and Roger's roads this weekend with 1 crappie to show for our efforts.

Ice is good, snow cover is manageable with a 4x4. We just need the March crappie bite to come I think.

I wonder is there just that much food in the lake right now where not much is bitting? Normally you have to beat the walleyes off your jig, but it sounds like even the eyes are just looking now.

Is there even going to be a March bite this year? Looks and sounds pretty tough!

3 years ago this winter January was almost this brutal. For all our equipment and technology Mother Nature still rules when and if they'll bite. We are all just pawns in the grand scheme of things. Besides it sounds like it isn't just URL that is slow right now.

We were up last weekend too, 1 crappie and about 40 eyes. Eyes were from 14-22" with the average about 17-18". Two of us caught 17 eyes one evening, if the other two (Contact US Regarding This Word) would have come with us I think we could have hit 30 fish. We fished shallow.

Deep_Sinker,

We fished out of one of Cookie's nice shacks and used the Westwinds access. Great service all around, it wasn't Cookie's fault that the fish weren't biting. We were on the eastern 1/3 of the group of houses but tried out on the western 1/3 of the village with the portable with no luck. We were disappointed that we didn't get any crappies but still had a great time and don't regret the trip.

Three of us fished 6 hours last Friday & 7 hours Sat. Total of 6 walleys and 8 perch. We tried 9 different spots from 4 to 6 1/2 miles out on Hillmans road. frown.gif

Hate to report the same thing but, 8 to 10 nice walleye, no crappie.

Fished 5 miles out from westwind.

Also hate to report fishing was slow up on LOW.

For those of you who catch a nice Northern...... a little advice. MOVE. It has been my experiance over the past years of fishing URL that when a big one moves in the slabs move out and do not come back for along time. Otherwise relax the Crapies are still there, I know, I've caught more than my friends have grin.gif

I don't think they have fixed much

More playas bite the dust.  Probably at least 5 more by the sounds of the reports.  Gotta be at least the many so I can be out too!

Have faith. You can see progress and ice depth from previous years on the Eagle Docks FB page. They said 16 inches a day or so ago.  A few years back they had 16 inches only a week before official ice out.  60s to even 70s next weekend.  It will be gone before opener. I'm planning on docks and lifts next weekend, but I am in a small protected bay that goes out pretty early.

We need optimism right now. The small bays haven't even opened up yet, which is typically two weeks before the big bays lose their ice. The forecast is in our favor though and I see that it's windy today, also a great sign.

Go to the DMV, see if there's a serial number on it. They should be able to title it

I moved my blind right into the middle of the field after I left this morning.  It sticks out like a sore thumb on the landscape.  A friend advised me to try this.  We'll see if it works later.  I hate the way it looks without blending in, but I have to try something else.

Im getting a ton of them also. So bad that I have to back out of the site and retry. Anyway to prevent them?

For a long time I've been getting pop-ups and error pages where I have to back page. I just thought it was the price of playing in the old sand lot! 🤔
