Greetings all. A big thank you to Surface Tension for finally helping me to become a member of F.M. by getting my home computer up and running. I have met many of you through Frank at various times and am extremely excited to finally be able to post on the forum. I guess you can't consider me just a lurker anymore now can you Steve grin.gif I work a lot of off shifts and weekends but try to make events when time allows. At least now I can communicate with all of you (YES!). That's all for now. I have to go get some tissue to wipe my eye, first post ya know! BC

Welcome aboard Mark. We'll have to get out and chase some fish soon. I hope you're going to be alright! grin.gif

Hey Mark,

I guess you could say that's some Big News for Big Country. I'm glad to see you are up and running. Your Avatar looks like another great photo taken by the one and only Surface Tension.

Take care,

Tom (BD110)

Thanks for the warm greetings guys. Reef, nice beard dude. Frank had to tell me who the picture was. Thought it was some crazed woodsman out to get me. I do have Sundays off now so yes, maybe we can get together soon and do some fishing. Bd110, you are correct. That was Surface Tension who took the picture. Not only that, but I do believe you were also on the boat that day last spring. Stfcatfish, give me a shout when you think Burntside has tightened up some more. I might have a place nearby for Frank and me to stay. I think I mentioned it to you when I met you, father-inlaws cabin on clear lake. Cheffrey, I met you with S.T. last spring on parkpoint when we couldn't make it out due to the wind. I think you got some of my smoked tullibee that day (yummy). Enjoy whats left of the weekend guys. Later. BC

Jeez, B.C., you the lurker who knows the most FMers, or what?? blush.gif

Burntside is tight enough for walking out on the North Arm now, and I reckon sleds are OK up there, too. It freezes earlier than the big bays, and the ice got in better shape before the warmup. That being said, I doubt I'll open next weekend on Bside, and probably won't get out on the girl until the Bash. I assume you're coming up for the Bash???? grin.gif

I knew I had met you I just couldn't remember where but now that you say it, it all comes back.

Stfcatfish, I would love to make the bash. Unfortunately I have to work on Saturday mad.gif Hopefully we can get together this winter to ice it, otherwise, the big lake will still be calling you this summer like I had mentioned. BC

Welcome Mark! Long time no see. LOL.

No kidding Steve. I think it was at Gander this last fall. I don't know if you heard or not, but Big Country's 90hp Johnson is in need of a rebuild. Didn't get the time on the big lake like I usually do this past summer because of a weak cylinder. But winter is here and I got a line on a guy who supposedly does great work. I'm frothing at the bit to be trolling again soon, but have a long wait. Good to hear from ya Northlander. BC

Pop ups have increased for me for a while now.  Timed to cover my usual taps about the time I would tap.

So there is a boat on a friend's property, has been there for about 4 years, with no contact from owner, and she is unreachable. It was last registered in 2020. Is there any way for him to make it his, legally?

I'm getting a lot of popups adds. Just wondering if it's just my computer or is every one getting them?

Birds at home have been quiet and out of sight.  Not sure where they went.  Last year they wouldn’t respond to calls - until they did.  But that will be common until the girls quit being friendly.

I've seen about 60 turkeys in 1.5 days of hunting thus far.  Unfortunately they are not responding to calls or decoys and the only birds that have walked within range are hens.   It's just a waiting game now.  Deer hunting for turkeys, hoping a legal one walks past before I have to quit in a few days...

A bunch of webcams available these days to see progress as well:   https://lakevermilionresorts.com/webcams/   Looks to be pulling away from shore. I expect ice out between next Friday and Sunday based on temps in the forecast.  Some sun and then some wind would get it going quickly.

But wait Meg, there's more!   Anyway, do you like fishing?  Trolling's kind of fun!  🤭
    • leech~~
Well lol, Google is your friend! 🤭     Yes, the 2012 movie "Loon Lake" was filmed in Minnesota. Specifically, it was shot in southwest Minnesota, with locations including Round Lake, Pioneer Village, and Jackson County. The film is also based on a local legend from southwest Minnesota about a witch who lived by Loon Lake.

Well indeed there is a movie and the trailer will help you near down the 25 lakes a lot by just checking into the Loon Lakes in Southwest, MN.  Should be easy now. Have fun.    Eager to escape the grief and nightmares of the city, Louis Olsen travels to Southwest Minnesota, seeking the peace of the rural countryside. When he accidentally disturbs the grave of a supposed local 'witch' Mary Jane Terlinden, what began as a peaceful reprieve unravels into a haunting nightmare from which Louis cannot escape - but is it all just in his head?

Great. That's usually a good sign for ice break-up.
