Was on Winni today. You could drive almost anywhere with a 4 wheel drive truck. Fishing was SLOW. Highbanks had great roads out of there place.

Steve,

I wish I woulda' known you were in my area Monday. Yeah the fishing slowed down a bit around here. My wife and I hit a lake up north of Winnie for crappies on Sunday and it was slow.....although I did ice a 13" slab. I blamed her though as she released the 1st crappie caught and it must've warned the rest of 'em! grin.gif We got checked by the local warden and he confirmed things had slowed down. What time are you guys gonna be up on Friday before the ICE Series? I'm on day shift 8-6 and will be free in the evening. Let me know, maybe we can get together. Sounds like BD110 should blow into town between 9 and 10.

Ill be to Winni about 8am or so Friday morning. Brian ya got any good cpprds for me on Winni? If so e-mail them to me and Ill check them out before you get off work.

Ya sounds like BD110 will be up about 9pm and we are meeting up at the hotel we are at to have a few smoothies.

Yeah Steve,

I'll fire up the GPS and get you some coords. I'm hopefully gonna be out there next Wed/Thurs for a little pre-fishing. Hopefully the spot BD110, lota, and I fished last year in the afternoon is on again! Smoothies around 9? PERFECT! grin.gif

I talked to a guy I know last Sunday and they had 9 'eyes for 3 people that night, which isn't bad. From about 4pm on was the 'eye bite and he said the smaller the hump the better it was. Problem with the big humps is trying to guess where the fish will come up onto the hump.

Steve, I've got a good map with alot of coords on it if you want to borrow it that Friday. I'll be on duty at 8am.

For sure I do! Where should I meet ya? Just dont ticket me if I speed by ya! wink.gif

Not long now everyone. This is going to be a lot of fun this year. Travel is very easy this year with great roads and very easy off road travel. I was up on Winni last week and drove just about anyplace I wanted with my F-150 4by4.

Looks like the weather should also be good.

I hope to see a bunch of the Duluth/BWCA guys up on Winni Saturday. Ill be at Dennys or on the Lake Friday about 9am threw Sunday night so give me a holler on Channel 7 if ya like. It would be nice to get a crew together and help eachother find some fish.

Rats...that would've been a lot funnier if it would have shown up on the same page as Northlander's triple post...

I'm in as a strong maybe for now. I've gotta fire up the GPS to get those top secret coords bmc, BD and I happened upon last year!!!

Now we know why Steves closing in on 8000 posts grin.gif The old triple posts technique wink.gif

I'm heading out this Wed. or Thurs. for some prefishing. Got a couple spots I'm just dyin' to try! Sounds like the perch are making the move from the shorelines out to the deep stuff and there's been a mid-day 'eyeball bite as well!!! Pretty consistent fishing from what I've been hearing. So........lota..........BD110 razz you enough that night to guilt you into possibly making the trip? grin.gif Northlander, if you still wanna borrow my map, let me know here.

We still on for bevy's in Deer River Friday night?

bmc,

Myself, my daughter and Northlander are still planning on meeting up with you on Friday night. I should be at the motel around 9:30pm. I e-mailed Surface Tension about our plans to let him know he and others are welcome to join us. I don't know the name of the bar, but I'm not sure if you should post it. If anyone is interested in joining us post a message and I will find a way to get you my cell number and any info needed. (the motel and bar are in Deer River)

Good luck with the pre fishing I hope you find us a good spot. I'll talk to Friday night if not before.

Lota,

Glad to hear you might be able to make it.

Take care,

Tom

For an event that is going to kick off in less then 48 hrs. There doesn't seem to be much chatter.

There has to be some other folks from the Duluth forum heading up to this thing. So if you are planning on going or you still need your arm twisted a little bit. Put a post on this thread so we know who will be up there from the Duluth area.

Not that I would ever twist someones arm to go to an event. I just need to know if I should bring more then 1 quart of pickled Northern along.

So who will be there???

Take care,

Tom (BD110)

BD,

You know I'll be there so odds are you'll need more than that one quart (which is going to be traveling in my otter on Saturday). grin.gif

Regarding the relative silence on this outing, it may be due the the new tourney format this year. I'm just going over to hang out with some of the FM guys and do a little jiggin'. I am not registering like I had done in the past. $10 and a door prize drawing was relaxed and, since the prizes were drawn rather than based on big fish, it opened guys up to sharing techniques and thoughts on places to try out. The new tourney format probably will change the nature of these events. I doubt that there will be a lot of guy on 7-sub-0 shouting out that they are on a school of fish and if anybody wants a crack at them they should stop over. I hope I'm wrong about that. I thought it was great that little kids were winning the Marcums. What a way to get them into the sport!

I'm packing up my gear today and will be headed to Denny's on Winnie Fri afternoon.

Tom, bring plenty of the pickled northern cause you can never have to much.

In addition to the ICE Series Event we have the FM Get Together as well so you don't have to be in the contest to join in. I'll be doing the registrations with Dennis so stop in and say hello even if your not in the Event you can register for a drawing and thats free so stop on in say howdy and register. I'm fishing for fun and to just hang out with the crowd. I'll have the phone and radio on channel 7. See you there!

Frank what cabin are ya in at Dennys? Call me when you get there and Ill stop by after Im done fishing. Im off to fill my 12#er and get some grub to eat on the ice. Hamburgers and Brauts n Beer on the MR.Heater Cooker. Yummy! smile.gif

This should be a blast guys. Looks like the weather will be good and I dont think they are getting the snow we are. Come one come all. grin.gif

I was out doing some prefishing today and I couldn't catch a perch for the life of me! I'm thinking of changing my handle to bmc/poutmeister after today though! I ended up icing 4 of the beasts today, 2 of which got stuck in a 8" hole! My partner caught 2 more pout, but we did catch 3 decent gators in the 4-5lb range, and I CR'd a 18" slot 'eye and lost another keeper 'eye in the hole. Lots of finicky fish out there guys. Hopefully the temp increase will help us out. It seemed lots of them would come up to the spoon and check it out then vanish even if you jiggled it a bit. Lookin' forward to seeing everyone on Saturday. grin.gif Still driving all over, even off roading in my Dakota wasn't a problem.

Right back at ya' Frank. I'd love to hook up with you and BD110 this coming weekend, but my kid's will be up and I'm on night shift Friday night. I'd still like to get up to B-side though this winter for some trout action. How often are you planning on fishing it this winter and are weekends or weekdays better for you? Tue, Wed, or Thurs would be best for me.

Did anyone give it a go again this morning?

Brian

Brian, I'd like to get up on the Gunflint Trail but I could swing another trout trip in the Ely area. If its during the week I'm limited to day trips.
