Does anyone have any report for the Canada/Flag, Young's Bay area?

I'm going to Flag a week from today and I was checking to see what has been shakin. I understand they get 2 pound perch, 3-pound Crappies and, of course, one pound 'Eyes.

Thoughts?

Are you staying at a local resort? Try Dan at Flag Island resort for some info...phone # is on their website and he should know how the reef fishing is as he runs winter outings for his quests....

We hit Flag Island and had a good time. The fishing was good and the people were great. Dan, Dave and Ron do a great job and treat you like a king. I have been to this resort once last summer and it was the same way -- Excellent.

They really know customer service. Dave is the best guide I have ever seen. He knows fishing and is very helpful. He cuts a ton of holes and puts you on fish. He checked on us a number of times during the day which was nice. I have been to other resorts that just drop you off and pick you up and then they expect a tip -- no thanks!!!

The lodge and cabins are very nice and very clean and they take care of you.

As for the fishing -- that was fun too. We ate fish every night and brought back a bunch of fish as well. We were there during a full-moon cycle, but still did well. We did not hit a lot of big ones, but the moon may have turned them off. But between six guys we caught aboout 70 fish -- that is good fishing for two days on the ice.

I would advise anyone to give the NW Angle a chance. The ice was fine for sleds or other ice machines no worries there.

Seriously 70 fish for 6 guys is not that good. Lets just say we had a few guys last weekend that were iceing like 30 a day per person. Shallow reef in monument bay 7-10" right on top were producing. I some cases there were groups of fish that would come in and the flasher would go nuts.

Wow you really had some great luck. No, I thought it was good, but I think the moon phase hurt us. The guys that were just leaving did better than we did. Much better.

Get any size?

JZ, If you don't mind me asking where is Monument Bay located up there. Is it on the US side?

Not in US waters!! If you leave Young's bay and head north past the US/Canadian marker, you go north and stay left.. It's about 5/8 miles from Youngs Bay Landing.. Past Bird House Island, use to belong to Bill Marvin from Marvin Windows, but he may be gone now, and keep going to the slight left. Head NW and you will see Monunt Bay Resort on your right. It's about as far west you can go, so don't worry about making a wrong turn. If you have a Marine Radio, the channel on that part of the lake is CH 9... If you start a Oak or Flag. Come west to the boarder a then North and Westerly.... Good fishing grounds, and clearly marked on the Canadain Maps.. Kaz grin.gif

As the old saying goes.... "Should've been here yesterday!" The group that left before you were on an aggressive bite that day. The next day was not as productive even though the fish seemed to be there. We were graphing fish and even saw them on the camera but the bite slowed quite a bit.

Fishing on the US side the next day was steady. Not fast and furious, but got a limit of decent sized fish.

I don't think they have fixed much

More playas bite the dust.  Probably at least 5 more by the sounds of the reports.  Gotta be at least the many so I can be out too!

Have faith. You can see progress and ice depth from previous years on the Eagle Docks FB page. They said 16 inches a day or so ago.  A few years back they had 16 inches only a week before official ice out.  60s to even 70s next weekend.  It will be gone before opener. I'm planning on docks and lifts next weekend, but I am in a small protected bay that goes out pretty early.

We need optimism right now. The small bays haven't even opened up yet, which is typically two weeks before the big bays lose their ice. The forecast is in our favor though and I see that it's windy today, also a great sign.

Go to the DMV, see if there's a serial number on it. They should be able to title it

I moved my blind right into the middle of the field after I left this morning.  It sticks out like a sore thumb on the landscape.  A friend advised me to try this.  We'll see if it works later.  I hate the way it looks without blending in, but I have to try something else.

For a long time I've been getting pop-ups and error pages where I have to back page. I just thought it was the price of playing in the old sand lot! 🤔
