Big Watab For Trout

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me hows trout fishin on and after the trout opener. Am thinking about given it a try

I can't say that I have ever pulled one through the ice out there but I do Trout fish quite a bit at Watab in the open water. I would love to hear how you do!!! Let us know.

I have fished watab in the summer and winter and been successful at both the trick in the winter is to find the zool plankton-those little bugs you see at night in your hole which usually are in the shallows anywhere from 1-15 feet in depth. I like to set up in about 5 or 6 feet when fishing trout,and early morning seems to be the best time, right at dusk, although I have came late and sat all day and gotten 2 or 3. Baitwise you can use crappie minnows but I prefer waxworms,2 or 3 on tour hook at once,and since trout have small mouths use a small jig or bare hook. Whats really neat is watab is so clear you can see 20 feet to the bottom so you can watch them come in and bite your hook and before your bobber goes down you can set the hook and boy do they fight! Be sure to set the hook hard being in the winter trout mouths toughen up and you probably want to keep the trout you catch cause they usually don`t survive if you try to throw them back.If you get lucky you might even catch the far and few between Brown trout. I have never fished trout through the ice and never fished this lake before. I have heard of people catching crappies and walleyes out there. Pedro do ever any luck or do you just fish trout?

I have fished watab for crappie and walleye, a good spot for crappie is if you walk out from the access and stay to your right just before it opens into a small bay there is a drop off to about 20 feet, easy to find with a depth finder that I have picked up a few crappies though small you can catch a few.As for the eyes the first point on the left people have picked up a few there too.

Thanks Pedro that just got you my vote i'm not going to vote for Summer! I think i might have to give it a try sometime this winter. I would love to drop my camera down i heard you can see just an incredible distance there.
