St. Croix Legend Elite Question

In your opinion, is it worth the $300.00 retail asking price?

I'm revamping my gear this year and am thinking of getting

1 7'0 MF action Baitcastor

1 7'0 MF action spinning rod

I've only had the privilege of using St. Croix Premiers 6'6" MF action Baitcastor and Spinning rods so I was wonder if I will really know or feel the difference?

You can get 2 St. Croix Avids for the price of one Legend Elite. Avid's are very, very nice rods. At some point you will hit the law of diminishing returns on your investment. The Legend may only help you catch 2-3 more fish per year than the Avid. You have to decide if it's worth the extra cost.

I couldn't possibly agree more with gpsman. Going from an Avid to a Legend Elite will give you a cooler toy than your buddy has, but won't make a bit of difference in how many fish you put in the boat. The same can be said for the SC4's- the purdy blue St. Croix blanks. They're cool and purdy, but won't catch any more fish than the SC3's (Avids) or SC5's (Legend Elites). BTW, St. Croix has discontinued their line of Legend Elites and won't be making them in the near future. You'll be stuck getting the junky Tournament Series blanks (SC4's)!

I'd strongly suggest the Avid. Great blank that'll catch every bit as many fish as the SC4's and SC5's. If you really want a nice rod, get an Avid made by a custom rod maker. If interested, I'll give you my dad's contact info- he has made some great sticks for the fellas on this site. If you're dead set on getting a REALLY, REALLY nice rod, go with an SC4 with whatever custom bells and whistles you'd like- they're great rods that are real eye catchers.

I am on the pro-staff of a custom rod maker that primarily uses St Croix blanks. I have SCII(Premier), SCIII(Avid), SCIV(Legend Tournament), and SCV(Legend Elite). I can honestly say that there is a difference between the blanks. The first time I used a SCV I nearly killed my buddy. I did what I thought to be a normal hookset and sent a #9 Rapala Shad Rap flying 150mph right back at the boat. Luckily I hit the side of the boat right under him and put a dent in the aluminum, not him. The SCV loads us so much strength that it actually takes some getting used to. With that you can cast further with less effort and set the the hook harder with less effort. Now the difference between the SCV and the SCIV's is not that great, but the difference in price is not that great either. The rods go in steps. If you compare II to V, there is a big difference and so on. It all comes down to what you are looking to spend and what you want out of the rod. If you want one of the best(I think THE best) rods out there go with the Legend Elite. If it is not that big of a deal, you will probably catch just as many fish with a SCIII as you will with a SCV.

I've had problems with St.Croix Avids breaking. I love the feel and the performace of the rods I own, and they have always replaced the rod no questions asked, but I lose the use of the rod for a month. Has anyone else experienced the same problem?

I've only had the tip on my premier rod crack on me. Thats been the only problem I;ve experienced with them

Dude, you remember my 7 foot baitcasting rod? Thats a Kistler LTA rod. The one where you said my red casting reel looked small on the rod. I like mine cause it has no foregrip. And its on par with my IMX. Get a G. Loomis man. After my St. Croix's broke on me, Ive never looked at them the same way.

I own 2 SCV IV and talked to a guy a ST.Croix and asked him about the V and he told me not much difference between the two. I have a medium and a medium lite in the 4 and really like them. Also have a couple of avids and yes they are also very nice rods.All of these are custom made rods.
