Does anyone have any spots to try for Northern Pike fishing on Lime Lake near Avoka?

I am looking forward to taking my son there over Christmas vacation next week.

We will use tip-ups and minnows. Should we get minnows in Slayton or Fulda?

Any tips would be great. Waterwolf22

Most of the northerns are caught right off the highway. Be careful as there is a culvert there. You can't miss it. From the culvert to the landing and anywhere in between there is where they are getting them.

No where in Slayton or Fulda to get minnows. You can get them in Dundee. Most luck in Lime lake is using smelt on or close to the bottom. You can get smelt at the grocery store in fulda.

Good luck

Thanks for the tip boiler guy! We are heading up North for the holiday and I will pick up the frozen smelt. Looking forward to next Tuesday for fishing Lime Lake. I noticed on the DNR website that Lime has had quite a few crappies stocked lately. We will have to try for some between flags. Maybe I will see you there or I will let you know how we did. Best of luck.

Ok, when did they stock crappies?!?!??!?!?! Not that I'm complaining, but I had no idea they did that and I live right there.

If there are any crappie in that lake I see you having better luck down by the county park landing. That's where we catch most of our perch.

If I'm not working, I'll be on the lake. I have a Fish Trap Guide portable and I'll either be in my little green Ford Ranger or on my 4 wheeler. DO NOT DRIVE ON THE LAKE!!!!!

On the DNR website it says in 2003 over 500 crappies were stocked in Lime. These were adult size. I have never fished Lime Lake but I have 2 dozen frozen smelt and ready to go after the pike. I will be in a blue chevy pick up fishing off the highway. No way will we drive on the lake. May dad fished on Chisago Lake last Friday near the north Metro area and did well on panfish but he claims the ice is in worse shape than 2 weeks ago. About 5" with slush and water all over. Would the county park on Lime Lake be a spot for northerns as well as crappies or should we stick to the shoreline next to the highway? Thanks boiler guy - good luck.

Ya, 120.00 sux. I have Access Broadband, they just raised their rate from 50.00 to 75.00. I'm lucky to get 3 to 5 mbts up or down, sometimes I'll get better. In fairness to them, they have been great trying to respond to my needs, but just can't improve my service. They said that they doubt I'll ever be able to stream a Wild game. I just purchased a new streaming box and it buffers none stop. With the new streaming box and the referral discount, I'll be able to cancel Sling, so, I'll save about 10.00 on my monthly bill. That's what I told my wife 😀 it's true...

That's a better price than when I bought a few years ago. I pulled the giant box across the ice on an old Radio Flyer sled late winter.   Good luck. You'll enjoy Starlink, except for paying the bill. Mine was originally $100/mo, then $110/mo, then they said I was in a low usage area so they dropped my bill to $90/mo for the last two years. I just got a letter a month or so ago saying that we are now in a "high usage" area so they raised it to $120/mo.

I did the app thing. The best place is the middle of my yard and that's not going to happen. I have a tripod stand and a "J" type stand. I've also looked at trimming some trees for a better view of the sky. Once I get it, I'll have to try different areas. Maybe I'll have to hire a guy to climb my tree and install it- I've seen YouTube videos on that. Middle of my roof looks to be somewhat clear, but I don't like to put holes in the shingles. Plus, it's a 12/12 pitch and I don't have Velcro shoes. If anyone is looking to buy Starlink, it's on sale till 4/30 at $159.00. If you do buy it, I can give to a referral code and we'll both get a free month.

With the current conditions and weather forecast I would still stick to Sunday, May 4th.  I almost guarantee Vermilion will be ice-free by the opener on May 10th.  Very likely someone on the list will have the correct date.

Black Bay began opening yesterday afternoon. I could see ice moving around in the middle.

I've got it too. It works great if you can get a clear view of the sky, works decent if there are blockages. I had to take down two trees and still have branches that reach out and interrupt.   Some people have their dish mounted on shore which probably helps a lot. You can download the Starlink app and then walk around your property. It will assess any spot to see if you'll get enough coverage.

I've seen them at the Cub in Minnetonka and just a few weeks ago, the Cub in Chanhassen. The little smelt, smaller than sardines.
