Guys,

Looking for a fishing partner for this coming Thursday and Friday evening. I've already asked Andy (RugbyGuy) about Thursday, but he said he'd have to get back to me.

I'm thinking the CC Manor pits, but I'm open to suggestion. I'd like to get out there with just enough daylight to drill some holes and get the shak setup. This means being on the ice at 4:30ish (let me know if this is too early for you to take off work). I'm guessing we should give it until 8-9ish, or later if they are biting well.

Any takers? We can take my shak and I've pretty much got everything we need. Just bring your rods and whatever else you normally fish with.

I have no problem going by myself, but my shak gets a bit heavy for 1 person to be dragging around the countryside. If you're interested, please let me know.

Cory (FM: Tullibee) and I will be at the pits on Thursday night. Any takers for Friday?

There might be a chance I can make it Thursday now. Will you still have room? I am done with work at 4:00 and work over on West Circle drive anyway, so it would take me minutes to get over there. I would really like to join you guys, probably could teach me a thing or two?? I will let you know for sure tomorrow. That is if you still have room??

Fish_Hunter,

I've commited the 2nd spot in my shak to Cory, so my shak is full. Your more than welcome to setup camp right next to us on the ice. We can work together to set things up and if you setup close enough, we can just chat back and forth.

I'm still looking for somebody for Friday night if your interested.

CrappieGuy,

I'd sure like to get out Friday night, but your the first one that has showed interest. If you want to go, I'll go. I should work until 4 at least, but it's sure nice to get everything setup and holes drilled before its totally dark.

As for a place to go, lets keep that up in the air. We can see how you fared today and how I do tonight and decide from there. Shoot me an email and we can exchange digits.

Let's plan on Friday evening around 4ish if that works for you

All,

Fishing was tough for us at the pits tonight. We managed 3 crappies and 3 gills. All fish were in the keeper range, but nothing huge. Everything went back down the hole. I did loose the biggest fish of the night to my vexilar transducer. It looked to be a 11"+ crappie. It still has my sweetish pimple in its mouth.

The ice was only 6" of good ice. By the time we left there was 2.5" of water on top of the ice everywhere above our holes. That was a bit of a issue, but the ice held firm and was nice and clear. 100% waterproof boots are a MUST! My vexlar sat in that water all night as well.

Glow ratsos produced the best. We fished from about 5:15-9:45. The best fishing was right when we setup and it slowly dwindled off from there.

I'd be game for trying a new spot for Friday night.

Thanks for the report Tyler. BTW, thanks for the info on my previous post. That makes pretty good sense what's going on between the north and south pond. I wish another cold front would come through that way we can get some better ice out there!

Ya, 120.00 sux. I have Access Broadband, they just raised their rate from 50.00 to 75.00. I'm lucky to get 3 to 5 mbts up or down, sometimes I'll get better. In fairness to them, they have been great trying to respond to my needs, but just can't improve my service. They said that they doubt I'll ever be able to stream a Wild game. I just purchased a new streaming box and it buffers none stop. With the new streaming box and the referral discount, I'll be able to cancel Sling, so, I'll save about 10.00 on my monthly bill. That's what I told my wife 😀 it's true...

That's a better price than when I bought a few years ago. I pulled the giant box across the ice on an old Radio Flyer sled late winter.   Good luck. You'll enjoy Starlink, except for paying the bill. Mine was originally $100/mo, then $110/mo, then they said I was in a low usage area so they dropped my bill to $90/mo for the last two years. I just got a letter a month or so ago saying that we are now in a "high usage" area so they raised it to $120/mo.

I did the app thing. The best place is the middle of my yard and that's not going to happen. I have a tripod stand and a "J" type stand. I've also looked at trimming some trees for a better view of the sky. Once I get it, I'll have to try different areas. Maybe I'll have to hire a guy to climb my tree and install it- I've seen YouTube videos on that. Middle of my roof looks to be somewhat clear, but I don't like to put holes in the shingles. Plus, it's a 12/12 pitch and I don't have Velcro shoes. If anyone is looking to buy Starlink, it's on sale till 4/30 at $159.00. If you do buy it, I can give to a referral code and we'll both get a free month.

With the current conditions and weather forecast I would still stick to Sunday, May 4th.  I almost guarantee Vermilion will be ice-free by the opener on May 10th.  Very likely someone on the list will have the correct date.

Black Bay began opening yesterday afternoon. I could see ice moving around in the middle.

I've got it too. It works great if you can get a clear view of the sky, works decent if there are blockages. I had to take down two trees and still have branches that reach out and interrupt.   Some people have their dish mounted on shore which probably helps a lot. You can download the Starlink app and then walk around your property. It will assess any spot to see if you'll get enough coverage.

I've seen them at the Cub in Minnetonka and just a few weeks ago, the Cub in Chanhassen. The little smelt, smaller than sardines.
