How did this weekend go on URL out of Westwind or Hillmans?

Posted

Not sure about those two, but I fished Saturday Night from about 6:00pm till 10:00pm out of Rogers and caught very little. I only managed a few walleye from 17-20" inches. Overall was one of the slower days or nights I have ever had on Upper Red.

I'll be back after Christmas though, and hopefuly things will have picked up a little. I did see fish on the Vexilar just about the whole time, but not many bites.

Ice was about 16" inches at the end of Rogers Road, but I did find some ice measuring only 9" inches under some deeper snow. The road was fairly good, but the ice has alot of speed bumps on it were the ice heaved upward.

Take care and good fishing.

After yesterday a lot of the speed bumps are gone, I made so many trips in and out I wore them down quite a bit, good thing, my back could not take to many more bumps.

Crappie fishing is still slow, still just one or two fish per day seems to be the norm, it is almost funny when we get all excited when someone catch’s six fish in just a couple of hours. This should change now that the fishermen can spread out and do a little exploring. grin.gif

We'll be up there in a couple of weeks. I'm sure the mother load will show themselves by then. wink.gif

They will. I'm gonna be there too. I'd like to know how everyone is going about their fishing on the lake. Is the poor success on slabs due to people setting up shop and not moving around? I like to catch fish on a fishing trip and on Red that means moving...sometimes a lot. I leave the lazy boy at home and find the fish. They are under the ice someplace. Is it just that nobody is hunting the fish? Or are they truly extinct?

The slow fishing is partially because there are very few people out there. Today is the first day that I have even dared to drive a plow truck out there. Some of the rental house's are just starting to head out today. It is amazing to me that more people don't go through the ice. While we are sitting and waiting or only using light vehicles people are driving 1 ton trucks out there. confused.gif I really don't think that they have a clue how heavy they are, or how lucky they are.

I have started pulling out some of the smaller skid houses yesterday, one in particular begged me to pull his house out yesterday, I recommended against it because of the weight, his is a particularly heavy house. Well low and behold he is in the lodge this a.m. begging me to move his house to higher ground, seems he has about 3 inches of water all around his house.

Sounds to me like you put him in a bad spot. grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

Sounds like a Great spot, could try speed trolling. Those slabs dig that. smirk.gif

No Kelly, I put him exactly where he wanted it placed, they blocked it up and went home. The good part is I just had fresh crappie for dinner, seems they did not want to clean just a couple of fish and they did not want to stick around much longer.

(I think they did not want to go down with their ship) grin.gif

Maybe they went home for higher boots. grin.gif I started moving my house's out yesterday. I was pleasently surprised by the condition of the ice. Low and behold one guy even limited Thursday night. Not me, one little walleye, and I picked the spot. confused.gif

I don't think they have fixed much

More playas bite the dust.  Probably at least 5 more by the sounds of the reports.  Gotta be at least the many so I can be out too!

Have faith. You can see progress and ice depth from previous years on the Eagle Docks FB page. They said 16 inches a day or so ago.  A few years back they had 16 inches only a week before official ice out.  60s to even 70s next weekend.  It will be gone before opener. I'm planning on docks and lifts next weekend, but I am in a small protected bay that goes out pretty early.

We need optimism right now. The small bays haven't even opened up yet, which is typically two weeks before the big bays lose their ice. The forecast is in our favor though and I see that it's windy today, also a great sign.

Go to the DMV, see if there's a serial number on it. They should be able to title it

I moved my blind right into the middle of the field after I left this morning.  It sticks out like a sore thumb on the landscape.  A friend advised me to try this.  We'll see if it works later.  I hate the way it looks without blending in, but I have to try something else.

For a long time I've been getting pop-ups and error pages where I have to back page. I just thought it was the price of playing in the old sand lot! 🤔
