off of sunset point yesterday??? Seen a lot of vehicles parked on the ice and thought they were really dumb for doing that and had it coming.

Posted

Yep, a guy dropped the front end of his truck through Sunday afternoon. It took three towtrucks and a few hours to pull him out.

Posted

What lake is this on? Im thinkig of heading out mon. but by 4 wheeler.

Posted

He was on South Center, on Sunset Point. He was parked where all the other vehicles park along the shoreline. Nagurski there should be plent of ice for you to travel out using your wheeler.

They got what they deserved for driving on the ice. Who drives a Rover these days anyway? Must be new to ice fishing. I am surprised the yuppie in the Rover didn't drive right out to his spot. It was probably the Rover that made the white truck go down.

So now we have to drive the right type of vehicle if we want to ice fish? The sport should be inclusive, not exclusive. The guy may have been a bit lacking in judgment for parking on the ice, but you do not have to rag on him for his poor taste in vehicle. For shame, snatcher20, for shame.

Ice Cold-

I never said "Rover" had to drive the right type of vehicle to ice fish. Please don't put words in my mouth. I was there. At most there was 6" of ice. I'd definitely park my truck next to another truck on the ice. You are correct though. I shouldn't rag on him for his poor taste in vehicles. Just for parking on 6" of ice. Next to another truck.

rover's are badazz

Now that's funny!!!! Great picture. Doesn't matter what they drive there flat out stupid for parking out there. grin.gif

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA That's too funny!! I work with the Rover owner's brother! The other day, I showed him a picture of a Northern caught on Monday and he told me that his brother had parked on the ice next to a few other trucks and ended up going in. Great to see a pick of that thing! LOL

His brother's a pretty smart guy. Guess it doesn't run in the family. Who drives out to park on inches of ice. Oh well.

quickdraw, would you send me a full size pic of this? I'd like to show his brother. My email is [email protected]

Thanks!

No one is getting any photos so just stop with that nonsense. It wasn't just the Rover parked there. There were other vehicles as well, it just so happened the Rover was closest to the white Ford. By the way, the Rover backed right out of its predicament.

Rover are tight.

To Mudcat. Easy on calling people stupid. It was the 20,000 pount Ford F350 that should have been out there. The Rover loves ice. It always parks there.

Posted

The funniest part about the Rover backing out is the owner didn't want to get wet, so he sweet talked the owner of the drowned white truck to back it out for him. I'm sure the owner of the white truck appreciated the wet feet three hours later while his truck was still bobbing in the lake.

Posted

C'mon now. The guy in the white truck offered to do it for the owner of the Rover. I was standing right there.

Nobody got hurt except for the feet of the owner of the white Ford so that's good news.

Posted

"Dude" must really like the owner of the Rover to keep sticking up for him.

Posted

Dude is in love with the owner of the Rover. In all seriousness though; this will never happen again. It's more of a fluke. It just goes to show that friends who say it's ok to park on the ice don't know crap. They are just as retarded as the people who actually parked on the ice.

No more name calling,

I think lessons were learned, now lets move onto some fishing!

Ya, 120.00 sux. I have Access Broadband, they just raised their rate from 50.00 to 75.00. I'm lucky to get 3 to 5 mbts up or down, sometimes I'll get better. In fairness to them, they have been great trying to respond to my needs, but just can't improve my service. They said that they doubt I'll ever be able to stream a Wild game. I just purchased a new streaming box and it buffers none stop. With the new streaming box and the referral discount, I'll be able to cancel Sling, so, I'll save about 10.00 on my monthly bill. That's what I told my wife 😀 it's true...

That's a better price than when I bought a few years ago. I pulled the giant box across the ice on an old Radio Flyer sled late winter.   Good luck. You'll enjoy Starlink, except for paying the bill. Mine was originally $100/mo, then $110/mo, then they said I was in a low usage area so they dropped my bill to $90/mo for the last two years. I just got a letter a month or so ago saying that we are now in a "high usage" area so they raised it to $120/mo.

I did the app thing. The best place is the middle of my yard and that's not going to happen. I have a tripod stand and a "J" type stand. I've also looked at trimming some trees for a better view of the sky. Once I get it, I'll have to try different areas. Maybe I'll have to hire a guy to climb my tree and install it- I've seen YouTube videos on that. Middle of my roof looks to be somewhat clear, but I don't like to put holes in the shingles. Plus, it's a 12/12 pitch and I don't have Velcro shoes. If anyone is looking to buy Starlink, it's on sale till 4/30 at $159.00. If you do buy it, I can give to a referral code and we'll both get a free month.

With the current conditions and weather forecast I would still stick to Sunday, May 4th.  I almost guarantee Vermilion will be ice-free by the opener on May 10th.  Very likely someone on the list will have the correct date.

Black Bay began opening yesterday afternoon. I could see ice moving around in the middle.

I've got it too. It works great if you can get a clear view of the sky, works decent if there are blockages. I had to take down two trees and still have branches that reach out and interrupt.   Some people have their dish mounted on shore which probably helps a lot. You can download the Starlink app and then walk around your property. It will assess any spot to see if you'll get enough coverage.

I've seen them at the Cub in Minnetonka and just a few weeks ago, the Cub in Chanhassen. The little smelt, smaller than sardines.
