Quality of St Croix Avid Ice Rod?

Question

Posted

(Contact US Regarding This Word) I am so mad right now. When you know a company like St Croix is supoose to mean quality. Today I picked up a St Croix Avid Ice Rod today and I really didn't look at the rod. Then when I finally got the black tape out to put the reel on I notice something. The holes on the rod were all offset from each other. The holes were not even straight. Only four of them and all of them were not even straight with each other. St Croix=Quality, I don't really know anymore.

I had the same problem last year but I noticed it at the cash register and went and got a better one I highly doubt these are "hand made"

Just like almost everything they are made in Taiwan,China, or some other cheap labor country!

I know with 100% certainty that St. Croix rolls all of their own blanks in Park Falls, WI. I know with 99.99% certainty that they wrap and finish all of their rods there too.

The St Croix rods are still made in the Cheese Head state, but I think that the St Croix company has gotten so big that quality is not their number factor, like it use to be. I think the St Croix company mass produces all their rods so much, its about the quanity that leaves the door not the quality. I went back to the store, to get a new one, with straighter rod line holders, and I notice that most of them at the store was also so crooked. I did finally find one that was straight. I think maybe this spring when I am going to look for a new pole, I may have to inspect it like crazy, if I do buy another St Croix pole.

Chances are that they send the blanks out to be wrapped elsewhere, maybe overseas, or maybe to shop or contractors to wrap the rods.
