Hi folks. I've been watching this site for a few months now but this is my first post. I'm really impressed with Mille Lacs and can't wait to get up there. I've read several posts about quality of sleeper shacks for rent and have a good feel about my choices. I'm not too picky about the quality of the shack, more interested on the quality of the fishing. Does anyone have any recommendations on who can do the best job to get you on fish? I realize there are never any guarantees but would like to increase my odds. I'd like to come up sometime around mid-January. Thanks in advance for any information you can provide. Great site!!

Since you are not getting alot of response, I suggest you call and talk to a few resorts. During your conversation you can deside who will meet or exceed your needs.

I recommend hiring a guide for a half day or day. With a guide, the hunt is on.

You can still stay at a rental house and probably catch fish but your odds will increase by chasing them.

Good Luck...

McQuiods on the east side has some really nice cabins, depending on who is fishing and their comfort levels too. If you are wanting to get out to the flats during the day, which I reccommend, then I would try twin Pines. They helped us out a number of years ago, and we actually caught fish at night, but you need to get out and fish during the day, most sleepers are put on night bite area's not day bites. there are a ton of resorts and everyone has their favorites. I have looked into McQuiods while fishing near them, and I have personally had a nice time fishing out of Twin Pines. You do seem to get what you pay for

Ya, 120.00 sux. I have Access Broadband, they just raised their rate from 50.00 to 75.00. I'm lucky to get 3 to 5 mbts up or down, sometimes I'll get better. In fairness to them, they have been great trying to respond to my needs, but just can't improve my service. They said that they doubt I'll ever be able to stream a Wild game. I just purchased a new streaming box and it buffers none stop. With the new streaming box and the referral discount, I'll be able to cancel Sling, so, I'll save about 10.00 on my monthly bill. That's what I told my wife 😀 it's true...

That's a better price than when I bought a few years ago. I pulled the giant box across the ice on an old Radio Flyer sled late winter.   Good luck. You'll enjoy Starlink, except for paying the bill. Mine was originally $100/mo, then $110/mo, then they said I was in a low usage area so they dropped my bill to $90/mo for the last two years. I just got a letter a month or so ago saying that we are now in a "high usage" area so they raised it to $120/mo.

I did the app thing. The best place is the middle of my yard and that's not going to happen. I have a tripod stand and a "J" type stand. I've also looked at trimming some trees for a better view of the sky. Once I get it, I'll have to try different areas. Maybe I'll have to hire a guy to climb my tree and install it- I've seen YouTube videos on that. Middle of my roof looks to be somewhat clear, but I don't like to put holes in the shingles. Plus, it's a 12/12 pitch and I don't have Velcro shoes. If anyone is looking to buy Starlink, it's on sale till 4/30 at $159.00. If you do buy it, I can give to a referral code and we'll both get a free month.

With the current conditions and weather forecast I would still stick to Sunday, May 4th.  I almost guarantee Vermilion will be ice-free by the opener on May 10th.  Very likely someone on the list will have the correct date.

Black Bay began opening yesterday afternoon. I could see ice moving around in the middle.

I've got it too. It works great if you can get a clear view of the sky, works decent if there are blockages. I had to take down two trees and still have branches that reach out and interrupt.   Some people have their dish mounted on shore which probably helps a lot. You can download the Starlink app and then walk around your property. It will assess any spot to see if you'll get enough coverage.

I've seen them at the Cub in Minnetonka and just a few weeks ago, the Cub in Chanhassen. The little smelt, smaller than sardines.
