I will no longer be in reach of cable and will have to get a satellite dish hooked up. I'm hoping to hear some good and bad things about differnet services. I'm not sure which one to go with. Any advice would be great guys, thanks.

I have Direct TV and I love it. The picture and sound quality are excellent. One of the features I love about it is the on-line account access. I decided last winter that I wanted to get HBO. I went online in to my account ordered it and by the time I walked from the computer into the living room HBO was on!

The only other thing I would like to have with it is Tivo. The digital recording would be nice to have and not have to fumble around with tapes.

I still have c-band and won't give it up till Dish and Direct TV changes their policy to purchase only the channels you want.

If you watch OLN its only available on Direct TV.

OR,

When i moved i wasn't able to get the locals anymore (i had the same view as ST for 12 years) via antenna, so ended up having to get satellite. I ended up getting Dish since they had the cheapest minimum package available. 31.99 including local channels. If you want "sunday ticket" its only available from Direct too. So far so good, no problems the last couple days with the snow, and online you can order services, pay your bill, order individual movies.

I like Direct TV more than Dish Network for the same 2 reasons already mentioned. 1) They have exlusive rights to the Sunday ticket. 2) Dish Network recently dropped OLN. If you're a NHL fan with Dish Network, you're SOL, unless you pay for that NHL package (if they have it.) Also, Direct TV has XM radio now. I should mention that I had Dish Network for 2 years before switching to Direct TV, so I have had experience with both.

That sure would be nice, but probably won't be happening for a while. There's a huge court battle going on- the government wants to force service providers to offer 'a la carte' cable. The only downside would be that a lot of the smaller, more niche channels would probably be shut down due to low numbers of viewers and major losses in ad revenue. As it stands there are only a few major cable channels that support the rest. Its kind of a tough situation, but it would be nice to see some sort of compromise. As much as I love rap music, I could still enjoy cable without BET blush.gif

There’s critters out and about.  Get yourself some cellular trail cams and you’ll see.

It wouldn't be the first time I've heard the USS Skunked Again breaking ice! I left this morning, the rain really did a number to the ice. I'll bet the Partridge River will be open by the weekend.

My yard is pretty open, but narrow. I think I'll be fine with reception in the areas I'm thinking. I try to keep the hill somewhat natural, but my wife wants to see the lake better. The video's I've watched, they have topped the trees and mounted the dish. I would this the swaying would affect the signal. Does Starlink help you with using WiFi for calling? My T-Mobile service sux at the cabin. Did you bury your cable?

I'm on the wide part of the channel going in to Black Bay. We won't see Paul B. For years.

Welcome back. Wow it's been since 2018 it looks like. Did you ever "I'm tightening up my footprint and want to build on my Bozeman lot on the Gallatin"?  😏

You're probably right. This isn't official since I've already lost, but I'll make my supplemental guess for May 6th since it's still open. 😄   As long as I can snake my way along the shore and/or plow through some dark ice on the 8th, I'll be happy. I love aluminum boats!

For all of my "problems" with getting a clear signal it's worth it. I can spend more time at the lake because I can work during the day and play or get things done at night. Toss in that I can record and watch a football/hockey/basketball game when I'm done at the end of the day....priceless.   Like your place, our property is more natural and I was worried about having to cut down a bunch of trees. I like that people have to get up close to see our place from the lake through the trees. Luckily I didn't have to do much to get enough a signal that works for me. If I needed to be on video calls, I probably would run the dish down to the shore to get a better view of the sky.   BTW - the main problem with mounting the dish on a tree is that the tree still has a canopy that will block the signal. The best option would be to top a tree and then mount it on the clear-cut top.
