Just a quick question to those who care to respond. I work in the golf business(itf you couldn't tell be the name), and often have weekdays off and not weekends. I have this upcoming Monday and Tuesday off and wanted to do a some ice fishing. I live in the metro and ice is definitely not safe enough for me yet to want to venture out for a day...the question...Is it worth it to drive up to Red lake tonight or early tomorrow and fish a couple days? I do not own a fourwheeler, never been to Red, no nothing about the lake except for waht people share on the site, but realize that if I want to fish I have to go north! Would you go? If so or if not, any suggestions!!!

Thanks for any advice/input

Phil

go for it, with a lake like Red you never know when you are gonna hit the mother load of fish. I was up there yesterday and there was 12" of ice most everywhere we went. We walked out of rogers. not that far of a walk from there.

Rogers is kind of on the SE side. Look on a map for Shotley and it's real darn close.

Hey pgagolfpro how was the golf season. I use to work at Chomnix in anoka. I would say if you had access to a sled I would bring it. That could be along walk out of any resort. Then you need to move around to try and find the mother load. I'm sure a fellow fishermen could or would help you out if they saw you walking out?A few weeks and we should be able to drive out. That would be a little easier. Good luck if you make the trip and let us know how you do.

Well I did decide to go up for a long day of fishing and the report is so-so...

I decided to walk out of Hillmans, and after a discussion at the bait store, two miles was the number that I was shooting for! I will tell you that two miles was not far enough to find crappies, but of course it was far enough to find the one fish in the lake you can't keep wink.gif! 11 total walleyes and two bite-offs (25 inches being the largest, the rest in that 16-19 range) I will say taht the Red Lake walleyes are some of the prettiest fish I have ever seen. Awesome!

I do want to say thanks to the guys that helped me in and towed me in at night...they were nice enough to stop by and notice that I did not have a four wheeler, so thanks!

They were at about four miles and said they did about as well as I did, but did manage 1 crappie.

Pretty much all of the fish were caught during the early part of the day...not a fish at night.

PGA Golf Pro,

Shoot me an e-mail. I work most weekends also and I'm always looking for someone that is willing to make the road trip up and back. Have sleds...will travel smile.gif

Pop ups have increased for me for a while now.  Timed to cover my usual taps about the time I would tap.

So there is a boat on a friend's property, has been there for about 4 years, with no contact from owner, and she is unreachable. It was last registered in 2020. Is there any way for him to make it his, legally?

I'm getting a lot of popups adds. Just wondering if it's just my computer or is every one getting them?

Birds at home have been quiet and out of sight.  Not sure where they went.  Last year they wouldn’t respond to calls - until they did.  But that will be common until the girls quit being friendly.

I've seen about 60 turkeys in 1.5 days of hunting thus far.  Unfortunately they are not responding to calls or decoys and the only birds that have walked within range are hens.   It's just a waiting game now.  Deer hunting for turkeys, hoping a legal one walks past before I have to quit in a few days...

A bunch of webcams available these days to see progress as well:   https://lakevermilionresorts.com/webcams/   Looks to be pulling away from shore. I expect ice out between next Friday and Sunday based on temps in the forecast.  Some sun and then some wind would get it going quickly.

But wait Meg, there's more!   Anyway, do you like fishing?  Trolling's kind of fun!  🤭

Well lol, Google is your friend! 🤭     Yes, the 2012 movie "Loon Lake" was filmed in Minnesota. Specifically, it was shot in southwest Minnesota, with locations including Round Lake, Pioneer Village, and Jackson County. The film is also based on a local legend from southwest Minnesota about a witch who lived by Loon Lake.

Well indeed there is a movie and the trailer will help you near down the 25 lakes a lot by just checking into the Loon Lakes in Southwest, MN.  Should be easy now. Have fun.    Eager to escape the grief and nightmares of the city, Louis Olsen travels to Southwest Minnesota, seeking the peace of the rural countryside. When he accidentally disturbs the grave of a supposed local 'witch' Mary Jane Terlinden, what began as a peaceful reprieve unravels into a haunting nightmare from which Louis cannot escape - but is it all just in his head?

Great. That's usually a good sign for ice break-up.
