Which Amsoil for Strikemaster 3 HP auger?

I have seen all the great posts on running Amsoil synthetic is ice augers and I am going to make the switch. Is there a specific type of 2-stroke Amsoil that should I be buying for my Strikemaster 3HP auger? I noticed that Fleet Farm has gallon jugs of 2-cycle oil that specifically mentions its for use with 2-cycle outboards & PWC's. Will this work in my auger?

No not that kind of oil, that is for boat motors. Amsoil Saber 100:1 mix is what you want. Its $3.50 for 8 oz that will make 6 gallons of gas.

Thanks for the advice. Do you know of a retailer that sells the oil you recommend? Fleet Farm in Brooklyn Park was either out of that oil or doesn't carry it. That had a ton of 4 stroke oil but only the gallon of boat oil in 2 stroke.

I have amsoil synthetic snowmobile oil, can this be used in my strikemaster 2 stroke?

I would think you could. I ran Klotz Techniplate synthetic (another snowmobile oil) in my auger all last winter. It worked a heck of a lot better than the Strikemaster oil I had been using previously. No more black oil sludge dripping out of the muffler.

Only problem with the Klotz, it smokes and it smells. Yeah, I like the smell but it gets old after you auger out all 8 holes in the perm. shack and then have to open the windows and doors to get the cloud of smoke out.

I really think you would be fine. I augered a lot of holes on that oil last winter and my auger still works.

I'm really looking forward to trying this Amsoil Saber though. Everyone raves about it and I have never heard a complaint about it. Thats speaks very loudly to me.

Boat/Snowmobile motor synthetic oil should be fine. The main thing to watch is the rating of the oil and the additives. All oils have a rating and most manufacturers will suggest a minimum. A lot of the difference in costs of oils is in the name (someone has to pay for that advertising). So basically, study the ratings and the additives, then whether it's two or four stroke you can be confident in your decision.

Amoil has a great line of oils that they WILL ship to your door. Also there is a number of direct jobbers in the area that have it in stock at all times.
