Just got back after being gone for two weeks and see that it's almost time for ice fishing season to begin. There was alot of rain that turned to ice here on Sunday (the roads are pretty clear here now, but still need to take it easy driving) which was followed by snow on Monday.

Haven't headed to Blackduck Lake yet today to check it out, but did make some calls to Upper Red Lake. Sounds like everyone is gearing up and will probably be open this weekend for foot and possibly four wheeler traffic. At Hillmans they said that Buddy was out of town, but when yesterday he had it marked 2.8 miles out, some spots had 12" but he had seen some open water. On the southshore Rogers had gone out on Saturday and was measuring 6" at that point. At Morts they said that the wind had come out of the north and that fortunately the snow blew towards the shore, still snow on the lake but with the way it blew it's not insulating the ice and we're making ice now. The access owners are going to be checking out the ice conditions so if you are planning to head up the next few days, touch base with them to get the latest ice conditions before heading on the lake.

The temps for the next seven days are looking good for making ice, forecasted highs around 15 and the lows around 1, with no accumulations of snow in the forecast right now.
