I was recently skinning a nice buck and when I got the skin off, there was a runny yellowish substance on the meat, around ribs and bottom of legs primarily. I skinned it shortly after the kill so I thought it might be warm fat, etc....this deer was a rutting buck if that has something to do with it. It has been a while since I did my own deer and I can't remember if others had this or not. Anyone know if this is common? Meat seemed fine once I cleaned it up. Deer appeared to be healthy when shot, no injuries, etc other than that caused by slug. Deer was killed in Central Illinois if that matters. I am sure I am being overly cautious but I do not want the family to get sick. thanks for any help someone may have.

I would say thats the fat and the meat should be ok.

I have seen the same thing cleaning my deer this fall. Not sure what it is, but the meat tastes fine.

I've seen it also, it looks a little unappetizing, but shouldn't effect the meat.

Was that a Lake Shelbyville buck? Just curious, I use to live and work at the lake.

I don't think you have anything to worry about at long as you clean it up. I've seen it before on some of the deer we shot. We took a hose to it and it cleaned right off and the meat was fine.

Hey Stenzel,

No, cumberland county buck...BUT, I live in Sullivan, right next to Corp ground...hunt the area alot and fish Shelbyville probably three days a week at least...just on this site all the time because of my strong desire to move up north.....

I hear you Outdoor1, I lived there for five years and finally had to get out and back up North. The lake and surrounding woods were nice but beyond that there isn't much.

Pop ups have increased for me for a while now.  Timed to cover my usual taps about the time I would tap.

So there is a boat on a friend's property, has been there for about 4 years, with no contact from owner, and she is unreachable. It was last registered in 2020. Is there any way for him to make it his, legally?

I'm getting a lot of popups adds. Just wondering if it's just my computer or is every one getting them?

Birds at home have been quiet and out of sight.  Not sure where they went.  Last year they wouldn’t respond to calls - until they did.  But that will be common until the girls quit being friendly.

I've seen about 60 turkeys in 1.5 days of hunting thus far.  Unfortunately they are not responding to calls or decoys and the only birds that have walked within range are hens.   It's just a waiting game now.  Deer hunting for turkeys, hoping a legal one walks past before I have to quit in a few days...

A bunch of webcams available these days to see progress as well:   https://lakevermilionresorts.com/webcams/   Looks to be pulling away from shore. I expect ice out between next Friday and Sunday based on temps in the forecast.  Some sun and then some wind would get it going quickly.

But wait Meg, there's more!   Anyway, do you like fishing?  Trolling's kind of fun!  🤭

Well lol, Google is your friend! 🤭     Yes, the 2012 movie "Loon Lake" was filmed in Minnesota. Specifically, it was shot in southwest Minnesota, with locations including Round Lake, Pioneer Village, and Jackson County. The film is also based on a local legend from southwest Minnesota about a witch who lived by Loon Lake.

Well indeed there is a movie and the trailer will help you near down the 25 lakes a lot by just checking into the Loon Lakes in Southwest, MN.  Should be easy now. Have fun.    Eager to escape the grief and nightmares of the city, Louis Olsen travels to Southwest Minnesota, seeking the peace of the rural countryside. When he accidentally disturbs the grave of a supposed local 'witch' Mary Jane Terlinden, what began as a peaceful reprieve unravels into a haunting nightmare from which Louis cannot escape - but is it all just in his head?

Great. That's usually a good sign for ice break-up.
