Has anyone hunted the river lately around Monticello to St. cloud? If so how was it? Really appreciate any info

I drove thru monti this morning, saw some mallards and geese.

I haven't hunted that area for a long time thou.

I was out tonight...not that far though. I was around Rogers...just upstream from where the Crow river comes in. No shootin'. Had a pair of mallards who would have been in perfect shooting zones...had I been set up already but wasn't. Then as I'm throwing out decoys four geese fly over....They were on the edge of what I considered in range...I let them fly. A flock of a doz malls went sailing way...over head..and just kept going. That was about it. It was nice to be out. I think it needs to be colder and for the bigger lakes to lock up before the river becomes a hot spot.

I field hunted last Saturday next to the river just out of Monticello. Saw a lot of mallards coming off the river and heard a fair amout of shooting coming from there. I also watched geese flying 100 yards above the water being shot at. At least that is what it looked like from my vantage point. You know how that can look from a distance though. I saw them shoot at 3 different flocks of geese and never saw any drop.

There are a ton of geese in the area right now. They are still roosting on the ice on the lake just off of hiway 25 in Big Lake and on the river.

We did not fair to well on our hunt. The geese seemed to be very decoy shy. We had 150 bigfoots out and were well hidden in blinds and they still would not come within 150 yards of us. I think they have been shot at all the way down the flyway.

Good Luck and Happy Thanksgiving.

if anybody happens to hunt the area around where the crow meets the miss., please pick up after yourselves. anyone who knows where im talking about also knows about the amount of garbage that gets left there. 3 times this year i have picked up enough garbage to fill the small garbage bags i bring out with me. and the sad thing is, there's still more garbage out there that i don't have room for. if nothing else, just pick up your spent shells, of just the pop cans, or the empty chew tins.

im not pointing fingers here. as far as im concerned its everybodies and nobody's garbage, im just asking to pick up a little after ourselves. and maybe a little after the guys who were there before us.

thanks...........loc9

Nope, that was the first time I hit that spot. It was fairly close to me and I only had a few hours to kill. I'll probably try to hit that spot sometime in the near future, Sunday morn maybe. Interested?

was out this morning and am going out again tomorrow morning. all by myself tomorrow so if you wanna come... if you see the red chevy at the access, you'll know where to find me.

I woke up late Sun morn..but went anyways. Birds were around and moving. Geese were decoying nicely...but I dont have any so I watched another group shoot some. I took home one three curled drake. They really started moving when the fog rolled in...right when I had to roll on out to hit my third thanksgiving feast in four days. I am stuffed.

just got home from the river, it was a good morning. 4 drakes, and 2 geese by 9 a.m. lots of big flocks of mallards passing by. the geese cooperated nicely this morning. had a pair come in just after shooting time, got the first then i short pumped and my gun jammed. had to laugh as the second flew away. luckly 5 more came an hour later and i got my second out of that flock.

fun morning, almost didn't go though. when i got to the landing it started pouring and i actually had second thoughts about going, but after i unloaded and parked the truck, it turned back to a light drizzle.

last time out for me i think. i don't want any more geese, BUT if somebody wants some help getting geese there let me know. i'd be glad to bring my decoy's and help for someone else's gain.

good luck to all............loc9

There’s critters out and about.  Get yourself some cellular trail cams and you’ll see.

It wouldn't be the first time I've heard the USS Skunked Again breaking ice! I left this morning, the rain really did a number to the ice. I'll bet the Partridge River will be open by the weekend.

My yard is pretty open, but narrow. I think I'll be fine with reception in the areas I'm thinking. I try to keep the hill somewhat natural, but my wife wants to see the lake better. The video's I've watched, they have topped the trees and mounted the dish. I would this the swaying would affect the signal. Does Starlink help you with using WiFi for calling? My T-Mobile service sux at the cabin. Did you bury your cable?

I'm on the wide part of the channel going in to Black Bay. We won't see Paul B. For years.

Welcome back. Wow it's been since 2018 it looks like. Did you ever "I'm tightening up my footprint and want to build on my Bozeman lot on the Gallatin"?  😏

You're probably right. This isn't official since I've already lost, but I'll make my supplemental guess for May 6th since it's still open. 😄   As long as I can snake my way along the shore and/or plow through some dark ice on the 8th, I'll be happy. I love aluminum boats!

For all of my "problems" with getting a clear signal it's worth it. I can spend more time at the lake because I can work during the day and play or get things done at night. Toss in that I can record and watch a football/hockey/basketball game when I'm done at the end of the day....priceless.   Like your place, our property is more natural and I was worried about having to cut down a bunch of trees. I like that people have to get up close to see our place from the lake through the trees. Luckily I didn't have to do much to get enough a signal that works for me. If I needed to be on video calls, I probably would run the dish down to the shore to get a better view of the sky.   BTW - the main problem with mounting the dish on a tree is that the tree still has a canopy that will block the signal. The best option would be to top a tree and then mount it on the clear-cut top.
