Indian Lake Muskies...Fact or Fiction

Recommended Posts

Indian Lake somewhere north of Lobster...never been on the lake but I have heard of a small lake stocked with skis...

Anyone in the know on this?

I e-mailed the state on this lake and Mina and this is what they sent me back.

Hi, Jason. The muskie management program on Indian Lake has been

dropped. Most of the muskie population was lost to an unexpected

early in 1994. I get an occasional report of a muskie seen, but I

can't suggest that the lake has a fishable population.

Lake Mina does support a low density population. There were a few fish

stocked in the early 70's. Lake Mina is also immediately downstream

from Lobster Lake. Some interbasin movement is probable. The 2002

survey was the most recent. A few fish are caught every year. I even

had a follow. Certainly does not have the population densities of

Lobster, Miltona, and Oscar lakes. Good luck!

hope this helps.

Whitewolf has got the info straight from the source!

Indian is a fun little lake (80 acres?)...was managed for ski's till 94 winterkill. it's got a bit of everything..and even some 'eyes stocked. fished with the kids and father in law on fathers day two years ago....caught a 15" largemouth, 30" pike, lots of sunnies, a few slabs, and then some crappies pushing 10 inches....it was a great fathers day....i think we even pulled in a bullhead or two...so we were only missing the walleye.

have talked to a local muskie guide who's tried it to see if he could raise a ski....no luck...

odds would be better on Mina...

Great Info Whitewolf! Would you share the e-mail address for the state that you used to ask your question please? Thanks.

I looked at lake finder and only find Indian lake by Miltona? I can't find the one by Lobster. Is it a different county?

I have a Weboost cellular amplifier at Wakemup Bay. It increases the signal from 1 bar or less to 3-4 bars BUT there is more to the story than bars. For data (like streaming video) I get faster data speeds WITHOUT using my booster. The reason as I understand it is that cellular data transmits and receives on multiple channels simultaneously (its called Multi-In-Multi-Out or MIMO.) Most boosters only amplify a single channel at a time. While the phone shows a good signal from the booster it can actually reduce the data speeds that are available with MIMO transmissions. A booster can improve your voice communications while diminishing your data speeds. You might want to look at the Mobile Internet Resource Center on YouTube for a better explanation.

57 in Black Bay and 44 in Niles Bay today.  The lake is changing by the day and the fishing reflects it.

So sorry, wish I could boat over to help. I think we will wait an extra week to head north.  Prayers for a good resolution.

Good morning Mtnman. Yes, the whole rainy lake watershed is under a flood warning. Water is as high as it was back in 2014. Forecast is that is should peak around May 20. All the ice went out last week with all the wind and rain we had. My dock didn’t make it though. Ice blew in and lift the whole thing, crib and all. Mother Nature…adds another project once the water is warm enough to work in. This week looks a little drier…I hope! Safe travels when you do head North.

The water was over 22 at the very south end of Mud and the overflow pond. I took that route to get to the cabin, I just moved the signs and drove through, saw a couple carp sunbathing on the warm road. 😂
