big lake ely mn

has anyone fished big lake in the ely area its of the echo trail there are only 2 resorts on the lake and 1 public acess i have fished it before but did not do real well anty tips or advice would be nice. thanks

Never fished it, Heard rumors of Good Walleye fishing using slip bobbers and leeches in the evening. Also heard the fishing for most other species in the lake is tough

I have fished Big lake quite a bit not a very deep lake so pay attention to the wind and the structure..imagine if your a bait fish where the waves would push you...a good summer depth is around 12 ft a simple split shot about a foot up from a gamagatsu hook with a crawler or a leech

Here are a couple suggestions on spots to try when your on Big Lake. Try the current area before you enter the back bay, the narrows there can be a hot bite if there is not alot of boats trying to enter the bay. Hold boat position there and try not to have to use your anchor(spooks the fish in that lake very quickly)use a orange or chartruece green fussy grubs vertically,that time of year crawlers are the choice

Another good spot is when heading for the narrows you will see a main lake point to your right try of that point late evenings to into dark. If you have a graph there is a shelve that holds alot of fish that time of year, fish just off the sides with slips and you should have fun!
