Any reports from the Arneson's Rocky Point Area??

Recommended Posts

I'm heading up this Wed. and staying at Arneson's Resort. Also fishing the south shore and reef areas. Any reports from some specific areas would be greatly appreciated. Are the fish on the reefs yet or on the mud? I don't know just how much leeches or cralwers to bring or if we'll be trolling plugs the entire time. Thanks for the reports and I'll post my success when I return on August 1st. I have bought the "Lakemaster Chip". I hear it's awesome and I can't wait to use it.

Thanks, The Undertaker

Undertaker, what a scary handle, shocked.gif. Three of us fished LOW Thursday and Friday, we launched at Arnesen's Thursday, we found that the walleye were scattered the same as the previous Wed. We fished a couple of unamed rock reefs and CR'd some 20" ers, CR'd a 22" out on 3 mile, went to Arnesen's Reef CR'd a 27 1/2", went to 12, nothing, went to the south shore and picked up some "eaters" in 15.5 fow. Friday we launched at Warroad and fished 5 mile reef, had a good one on, got off, picked up some more eaters, tried the south shore got nothing. We used nightcrawlers and spinners. The guys downrigging out of Arnesen's did very well, sounded like they were out north of 3 mile towards 16 mile. We hit perfect weather so it was nice being able to go anywhere we wished. Hope you have a great time and good weather.

Just returned from the Warroad area and the fishing was the slowest I have seen, but the wife and I still caught fish. Turned out trolling plugs was the best, just about everywhere. 8-26 feet. All depended on the area and getting out of that nasty wind, wow!! shocked.gif Today was incredible winds..

We did make it way out to various reefs and those were the best producers, but then again, that weather changed day by day and changed everything on every spot we did hit each day.

Good luck. Wish I could have stayed longer...

Yeah, that wind yesterday was something alright... I went out to 16m early in the morning and the wind hit me before I could get out of there... There were some BIG rollers out there... Long slow ride home.

Yes, I was. Were you the skeeter? Must have been since there were only you and I out there...

Looked like you were having a good time taking pictures...

Had a few picture worthy ones myself...

LOL! Small world! Yes, that was my wife and I. I generally knew you had a Ranger, and your motors had me suspicious since I heard you say you got a new main motor after the Merc blew up. I have a similar Merc motor as your old one, hope mine doesn't fail. wink.gif

Friday was a good day, but it got progressively worse for us as the weekend went on. Those winds kept us near camp on the south shore.

What kind of plugs were you pulling on 16? Seems they were snapping pretty good for you there for a while...

Wasn't another boat on 16 yesterday... Fish were going pretty good on the west side where you were on Friday night.

Decided to get the heck out of there after I couldn't stand up in the boat anymore...

I made it to the south shore of Buffalo Point area Sunday morning and I can't imagine making it to 16M. shocked.gif The winds just went crazy as the day progressed.

Throw me an email if you like, widetrack. I'd like to compare notes. chunord at yahoo dot com

We stuck it out on the sandbar on Buffalo until about 2:30 on Sunday, when you throw the drift sock out and the wind catch's it and it becomes a parachute, it's pretty much time to go! Only consolation is that the walleys were biting even in the wind and less than 8 f.o.w.

Any new reports?? I'm heading up this Thursday for 5 days. What's been going good on the south shore & reefs (leeches vs. crawlers vs. downriggin)? Thanks for your reply.

Got a 29.75" today along with a dozen or so others. Eaters were scarce today, most fish were from 20 to 24". Reef Runners in 29 to 33 fow.

later,
