You boys need to simmer down now.

Buzz, you can call the Texan for any advice on how to fish the lake cool.gif Were thinking about annexing that county into Texas and all the bs going on over there will stop cool.gif

Enjoy your trip to Cass and hope you tear 'em up while you're there....

Thanks texan! Alot of good guys on this thread! It makes me look forward to checking in once and a while to see whats happening and to share stories. I've only been to Cass once and it was last year in August I believe... I don't know anything about the lake and will soak up any info people have to give in regards to muskie and walleye fishing.

Glad to see we can all play nice!

Brian,

I'm obviously not up on Cass this week. My boss told me that I didn't give him enough notice to take the time off....something about upholding company policy. But go ahead and ask him how much notice he gave for his last vacation?????

At any rate, I'm hoping to get up there the week of the 6th. I'll give you a call and maybe book a half day of chasin' the eyes'. The little lady will quickly tire of chasing muskies, I'm sure.

I gave 9 days notice to myself. Better than your 5 days notice. Hopefully you'll be considerate enough to give 2 weeks when you quit. But just as a reminder, we're opening Stoney Point Grill in less than 2 weeks. You better come back!!!!!!!!!

Shame on you Buzz . . . The Pies look very solid this year. Then throw in the Gophs, CC, the "dive team" (Sconny) and the Sioux and it will be a fun year. Only three more months . . . but a lot of fishing in the meantime.

Yes Tim it was in the final vs ND. I just wanted to razz my buddy Shorelunch who is from North Dakota... and you can see he changed his avatar to the goal ND scored against my Gophers this past year in the NCAA's. Were having fun with each other... but Denver has/had a super squad! Fun to watch.

Hey Bri,

They are trophies to me. Real beauty.

Now, where did you get it and what was your method and bait of choice? I know, I know..if you tell me you'll have to kill me! Never mind.

Don't bother fishing on Cass, Buzz, no big ones in there....at least I haven't caught any.

Texan, football? You give up on your Rangers already? and didn't the Texas Bball team do pretty good last year? (For some reason, I like to root against the "Domers". Oh yeah, it is because they are usually too "fanatical" for me). And I just remembered why you don't go for hockey-no ice in the hot state of TX, right?

Well...college hockey is all we had last year and being that I went to Denver back in the 80's it's great to have won the last TWO national Championships!!!!

Sweet fish Brian!! Man...look at the guide catching all the pigs!

Hey Texan...WHOOP! See...I know my college football...

Texan,

You are right. We need to get some stuff stirred. So lets get crackin'!!

Jones, you better move to Afghanistan, grow a beard and wrap your laundry around your head. Those Texans are coming back up there to talk to you about these big walleyes you've been posting. They think that because they are from Texas, that you've been messing with them, just getting them the little ones. Heck, I told them that every time out with you I catch at least one 30 incher!!

These Texans are wound up. This could get real ugly. Glad I won't be around when they come back this fall.

Whew!!!

I think he saves his BIG fish spots for clients from THE BIG state- Alaska- All the rest of us get the little ones. Ha

I know the 2 pics Brian posted are bigger than any we've gotten , so far. Our biggest so far are 24.5", and I know they weren't ALASKA size. I have high hopes for this years trip in Sept. though. (very high hopes indeed)

Thatta boy Nevada, you got it down perfect.

Same old story with Jones, they were biting before you got here and then you get the e-mail about them biting as soon as you leave.....

Texan did pretty dang good crusing around in an Alaskan on his own....catching northerns that is......

Buzz, can't stand longhorns or anything burnt orange for that fact. They have had the best of us here for 4 or 5 years, as much as we're paying our new football coach, better start seeing some more wins...

With the early ice out, how is the curlyleaf pondweed doing?
    • LakeofthewoodsMN
On the south end...   The big basin, otherwise known as Big Traverse Bay, is ice free.  Zippel Bay and Four Mile Bay are ice free as well.  Everything is shaping up nicely for the MN Fishing Opener on May 11th. With the walleye / sauger season currently closed, most anglers are targeting sturgeon and pike.  Some sturgeon anglers are fishing at the mouth of the Rainy River, but most sturgeon are targeted in Four Mile Bay or the Rainy River.  Hence, pike are the targeted species on the south shore and various bays currently.   Pike fishing this time of year is a unique opportunity, as LOW is border water with Canada, the pike season is open year round. The limit is 3 pike per day with one being able to be more than 40 inches. All fish 30 - 40 inches must be released. Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn.  Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.   Four Mile Bay, Bostic Bay and Zippel Bay are all small water and boats of various sizes work well. On the Rainy River...  Great news this week as we learned sturgeon will not be placed on the endangered species list by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.     The organization had to make a decision by June 30 and listing sturgeon could have ended sturgeon fishing.  Thankfully, after looking at the many success stories across the nation, including LOW and the Rainy River, sturgeon fishing and successful sturgeon management continues.   A good week sturgeon fishing on the Rainy River.  Speaking to some sturgeon aficionados, fishing will actually get even better as water temps rise.     Four Mile Bay at the mouth of the Rainy River near the Wheeler's Point Boat Ramp is still producing good numbers of fish, as are various holes along the 42 miles of navigable Rainy River from the mouth to Birchdale.   The sturgeon season continues through May 15th and resumes again July 1st.   Oct 1 - April 23, Catch and Release April 24 - May 7, Harvest Season May 8 - May 15, Catch and Release May 16 - June 30, Sturgeon Fishing Closed July 1 - Sep 30, Harvest Season If you fish during the sturgeon harvest season and you want to keep a sturgeon, you must purchase a sturgeon tag for $5 prior to fishing.    One sturgeon per calendar year (45 - 50" inclusive, or over 75"). Most sturgeon anglers are either a glob of crawlers or a combo of crawlers and frozen emerald shiners on a sturgeon rig, which is an 18" leader with a 4/0 circle hook combined with a no roll sinker.  Local bait shops have all of the gear and bait. Up at the NW Angle...  A few spots with rotten ice, but as a rule, most of the Angle is showing off open water.  In these parts, most are looking ahead to the MN Fishing Opener.  Based on late ice fishing success, it should be a good one.

Nice fish. I moved to the Sartell area last summer and just thought it was windy like this everyday up here? 🤭
    • Rick G
Crazy windy again today.... This is has been the norm this spring. Between the wind and the cold fronts, fishing has been more challenging for me than most years.  Panfish have been moving in and out of the shallows quite a bit. One day they are up in the slop, the next they are out relating to cabbage or the newly sprouting lilly pads.  Today eye guy and I found them in 4-5 ft of water, hanging close to any tree branches that happened to be laying in the water.  Bigger fish were liking a 1/32 head and a Bobby Garland baby shad.   Highlight of the day way this healthy 15incher
