Benjamin Lake Trout Fishing

My 14 year old son has been asking me to take him to Benjamin Lake in search of trout. Is there anyone out there who has experience with Benjamin Lake and who can advise whether or not a July trip to a trout lake is worthwhile. Any tips on tactics or locations would be appreciated. I have a light14 foot boat that I am thinking would be fun to row around the lake, trolling spoons or spinners.

Benjamin Lake is a beautiful lake to spend some time on. Most of our guests that have fished Benjamin in July have been the construction workers who have hit it in the early evening (shoreline fishing). They normally hit the fishing pier (which is a nice set up but typically better off there early season) and also on the far east side of the lake there's a little clearing in the trees. I'd also give a shot to the left of the landing (heading up towards the CCC Camp..but not quite all the way to the Camp, opposite side of the beach), there's been plenty of folks out on the boat that have reeled in some nice rainbows in that area. Drake, We spent a sun drenched afternoon trolling around Benjamin Lake but did not catch any trout. We were quite surpised by the large numbers of perch we encountered in the shallow areas. They all were pretty small and covered with black spots. Nevertheless, we greatly enjoyed the outing and will deffinitely try Benjamin again at a more oppportune time of the year.
