Grand Marais BWCA

Anybody know where the walleyes are stacked up in the Grand Marais area. I'm going up there this weekend hoping to pull some out of the shallow water near creek inlets but does any one have a guess to what water temps I'll be looking at, and/or what the fish are biting on?. I'm guessing throwing rapalas into shallow water will be the best bet. We're putting in at Poplar lake and heading south. Any suggestions??? Also, is it too early to use leeches?

A Friend of mine just got back from up the gunflint.While i am honer bound not to mention the lake name, he did very well on spawning males near the mouths of the inlets.when i say well i mean a stringer in the 20# range with one around 24"all females caught were released and males kept only.And get this,THEY WERE FULL OF LEECHES!!!seems early for leeches yet there they were (go figure) Good Luck and perhaps a leech and jig?? Not much luck with the eye's but we did get into a pretty decent northern bite in the inlets and currents. The ice just came off most of the lakes up there so the water was still pretty cold, the one walleye we did catch was chaulk full of sperm. I guess they're just startin to spawn now. A green and white shad-rap was the hot ticket, although we did catch a few on leeches. I guess the lake trout were bitin' pretty good too.
