Recommended Posts

I have been catching lots of perch and no walleyes on Little pine. I have been using Lindy's with crawlers and Red tails anywhere from 8-20 feet. Any suggestions??

thanks in advance.

Try a different lake?

We just got back from a week up there, and had the same results, lots of perch and no walleyes. When my brother and I were told to go out and get some fish for a fish fry, we took the kids out, and let them catch a whole mess of them. We kept the 8-10" ones and the deep hooked ones and threw the rest back. We had our fish fry, but cleaning the fish took longer than catching them. But they do taste good.

It seems to be a tough year for walleye fishing on Little Pine, my neighbor, who has lived on the lake for the last 15 years, says that this is the worst that he has ever seen it. But I take everything that he says with a grain of salt.

I think that the walleyes are suspended over the deeper water right now. I was seeing quite a few marks about 8' off the bottom in 25-30' of water the other morning, but I couldn't get anything to bite on crawlers or leeches.

There are a gazillion new minnows in the lake right now, my daughter and I watched them going by our dock for hours, so I think that the walleyes can grab a meal whenever they want.

Hey newtofishing!

Did you ever find a guide to show you around LP??

As far as the bite goes, I was told that July is usually a very tough month to catch walleyes out there. Like many other lakes though, it usually gets much better in the fall.

Same here, it seems that the lake has only perch and rock bass right now. I can usually at least catch some northern to keep me entertained. I'll be back up this weekend to try again smile.gif

I should be pulling out of the boat lift no later than Sun afternoon, then Sun eve. Then Mon morn. Look for me - I will be in the white and maroon Nitro. If Sunday and Monday are poor on Little Pine, I will be heading to Big, Otter Tail, West Battle, and Dead over the course of the entire week. I only know how to fish Big and Little, so I'll have to study the maps a bit.

I am on the phone w/ Steve right now. I guess someone from here went out with him and they got about 7 eyes and kept 5. Not great, but decent for a morning on the water.

He did say that the bite really died this weekend.

There is no such thing as catching too many perch lol. The last time I was on Little Pine the perch had worms, is that still the case? Would gladly come and take some out for you if not wormy and a decent size. smile.gif

Fished all last week. Little Pine, nada for walleye - at least for me. I trolled anywhere between .5 and 2 mph. I used redtails, leaches, crawlers, jigs, rapalas of all types. I went from 15-40 feet. Stopped and verticle jigged on my old productive humps. Marked fish at the humps, weedlines, and flats. I did not fish past 10:00 PM but spent time 6:00AM-8:00AM and 7:00PM-9:00PM. Spent about 12 man-hours on Little Pine.

Perch everywhere. When my little nieces and nephews came up, I had them fishing for their limit of perch for several days. We cleaned out a bunch right off the dock. Many small ones, but some 10" fish.

Go to Big Pine for walleye. They said BP has picked up a little.

Got a couple of walleye on Ottertail one eve - verticle jigging humps with redtails. Still kinda slow for Ottertail.

One other small lake with bass, crappie, and walleye was semi-productive one night and then shut down on the next night. Fish in a slight chop. Calm waters seemed to have killed the bite. Due to a promise, I cannot reveal the small lake. Sorry.

We ended up spending most days skiing. If you saw a pyramid or a boat pulling 6 skiers, that was us.

Has anyone here had any luck on Rice Lake yet this year? All that rain a couple of weeks ago made the water level go way up and fishing opener for us was a complete bust ( although apparently someone on the lake caught a 31" walleye according to a DNR officer).   I'll be up there for at least part of the long weekend this weekend. Looking forward to some fishing. I'm contemplating targeting the bay that Morning Star Resort is on for some walleye. I don't claim to be an expert in fishing or fish behavior but it's early season so shallower seems to be better than deeper dropoffs like we would normally target during the summer. Forecasts I've seen suggest targeting bays too. Anyone have thoughts on that?   Good luck to anyone out there this weekend! Hopefully the fishing is back to normal after the weird start to the season.

Heading up to crane Lake area. How are conditions and any tips / pointers?

Yes indeed. We actually bought it together. We wedged the pontoon boat into that lift last fall and hoisted it out of the water. Unfortunately the water came up so much this spring, the pontoon couldn't float with the rising levels. There wasn't much that we could do opening weekend except wait for the water to drop and then assess the damage. It's mainly a garbage hauler so no big loss for a $500 boat/motor.

I forgot to post this but I got a jake during season B north of Princeton on some private land.  I had been hunting this flock of birds for 3 seasons now.  I hear and/or see them every day, but simply could not get a legal bearded turkey to come within range.  Finally, a hen came walking out with a jake and I dusted the jake on the 4th day of my hunt.  There's plenty of birds there, including several mature toms, so I intend to keep hunting there in the future as long as I can obtain permission.  The weather was downright terrible.  I had one nice morning of sunshine and then it was windy, rainy, and raw for days.  Saturday morning even produced a heavy summer-type down pour.  I was so thankful to be hunting in a blind.  I also saw a fair amount of other wildlife in four days, including deer, pheasants, a pair of raccoons, and a coyote.

I have questions about the following hypothetical. Buy used boat and trailer from Iowa Resident. Would need to transfer, and I have not done before. Duck boat, may occasionally fish out of it. Technically 15'11 1/2" long. Will have motor. Do I need a title? Does it need registration?   Same for trailer. Need a title? Need Registration? License Plate?   Thank you for any help.

I realize it's only been 2 days Raven77, but are you continuing to see the level decreasing?
