Hey guys,

My trip to Basswood isn't until late august but i was wondering if anyone could give me some walleye advise. I was last up in this area the week after the big windstorm up there. We had very little success with the walleye but did fine on the smallies and northern. Admittedly i am not a walleye fisherman, but when i get up to areas like the BWCA I definately like to catch em and eat em. we'll probably have a portable depth finder with us so any info on approx. reef locations would be nice. thanks for the help.

Bassface...What did you think of all the timber that was down in that area? It was impressive being there during the storm and even more impressive to see what it did to some of the islands like Norway Island on Baswood. I was camped on Norway Is. a week before the storm hit and I'm sure glad I wasn't there when it hit.

In August I usually fish the bottlenecks between islands and the South side of Washington Island with good success. Any mid-lake reef you can find will most likely be good and Wind Bay is good that time of year. Pay special attention to wind direction and take advantage of wind blown shorlines by casting crank baits.

The damage was sure impressive. When we got there, about a week after I think, if you were a birch tree you were not standing straight. The damage was all over but the birch trees seemed to get the worst of it.Thanks for the advice. When we were there we didn't fish wind bay for some reason and i've regretted it ever since. Rest assured it will be thoroughly dissected in august. I think we're also going to try to get up into crooked. Are there any spots there that come to mind or is it relatively the same ie bottlenecks and windswept shorelines. Thanks again

Bassface, I am heading up to basswood for the first time this memorial week so I dont know of any spots yet. but I was going to tell you that Mckenzie maps have a contoured lake map of basswood that covers the whole lake on 1 map. #10A. You might have one already, but if you dont I would recommend buying it.
