I realize that I should probably be posting this report in the "Metro" section but wanted to give you guys the inside track as well as our good friends closer to the Cities.

Took a friend of mine that I work with to Waconia yesterday for a little better than a half day trip. We fished from about 5:30 am until 12:30. By 12:30, the recreational boaters were definitely starting to take over, which was fine. My plan was to start with targeting shallow 'eyes in and around weedlines and as the day progressed to move out deeper and look for suspended fish.

We began our search on what is typically a good flat on the north end of the lake. We casted this area with cranks and plastic for a little over an hour with only a few small bass to show for our efforts. I decided to move on the inside of the weedline that ran across the flat we were fishing and work a very small area of gravel and rock in 3 - 4' of water. This spot was empty of walleyes as well. For the next couple of hours, we spent our time casting to shorelines that consisted of large rubble and gravel and also came up empty-handed. As 10:00 am approached, we decided to go looking for suspended fish with cranks behind boards. Unfortunately, this pattern didn't work out either.

We fished a lot of areas yesterday that usually hold fish and there was nothing happening. I don't understand it, other than that it was an extremely tough bite to say the least. One thing worth mentioning is that the population of cormorants up there is out of control. I've never seen them that bad up there before. This may or may not be contributing to the slower bite up there but before you know it, we may have another "Leech Lake issue" on our hands. It's definitely something to keep an eye on.

I'll be out at least one night this week around here and then I'm headed to Mille Lacs on Saturday for a day trip. Good luck to all out there!

I have a Weboost cellular amplifier at Wakemup Bay. It increases the signal from 1 bar or less to 3-4 bars BUT there is more to the story than bars. For data (like streaming video) I get faster data speeds WITHOUT using my booster. The reason as I understand it is that cellular data transmits and receives on multiple channels simultaneously (its called Multi-In-Multi-Out or MIMO.) Most boosters only amplify a single channel at a time. While the phone shows a good signal from the booster it can actually reduce the data speeds that are available with MIMO transmissions. A booster can improve your voice communications while diminishing your data speeds. You might want to look at the Mobile Internet Resource Center on YouTube for a better explanation.

57 in Black Bay and 44 in Niles Bay today.  The lake is changing by the day and the fishing reflects it.

So sorry, wish I could boat over to help. I think we will wait an extra week to head north.  Prayers for a good resolution.

Good morning Mtnman. Yes, the whole rainy lake watershed is under a flood warning. Water is as high as it was back in 2014. Forecast is that is should peak around May 20. All the ice went out last week with all the wind and rain we had. My dock didn’t make it though. Ice blew in and lift the whole thing, crib and all. Mother Nature…adds another project once the water is warm enough to work in. This week looks a little drier…I hope! Safe travels when you do head North.

The water was over 22 at the very south end of Mud and the overflow pond. I took that route to get to the cabin, I just moved the signs and drove through, saw a couple carp sunbathing on the warm road. 😂
